Ich hab den 16 J alten ThinkPad T510i meines Vaters wiederbelebt, indem ich die Festplatte gegen eine SSD getauscht und Linux Mint installiert habe. Es ist ein Dual-Core i5 mit 6 GB RAM, der vorher unter Windows 8.1 fast unbenutzbar war. Jetzt bootet er in 5-7s. und Firefox, Youtube, Libreoffice, usw. laufen problemlos. #linux #linuxmint #thinkpad #pc #computers

My setup for recording game play tonight: 42" LG C2 OLED TVMSI Claw 8 AI+IVANKY Dock (the Claw is sitting on it) with HDMI out to external capture card, USB for mouse and controller.Ugreen external USB-C video capture card that can do up to 4K at 144hz. Almost zero lag loopback for video to my TV. It's hidden behind the Claw.Lenovo ThinkPad 14s gen 5 running Fedora Linux 44 (Silverblue) with OBS Studio to record game play.El cheapo TMKB M1 mouse. It might be cheap ($29), but it is pretty awesome and performs just as good as the $80+ name brand mice (looking at you Logitech, why are your mice so expensive?)Gamesir Cyclone 2 controller with TMR sticks.Old Microsoft Designer keyboard. It's old, but it's super compact and thin. Still no good news with the freshly out #NetBSD 11.0 RELEASE. S3 suspend woke up with dead WiFi (Intel 8265, iwm driver), in addition to keyboard and touchpad as before on my #ThinkPad T470s. So basically dead machine and no way to reset unless long press power button for a hard reboot. Desktop usability needs more love. #runBSD #BSD #Unix #AskFedi

chat do any of you need lenovo thinkpad L14 parts ? pay what you want, shipping in EU, crypto payments ok too ill js keep them for myself if not, i already took the wifi card, the iwlwifi card is not an official thinkpad L14 part posting cuz someone may save like idk 50 eur from official sources, everything is working except i think the iGPU from the motherboard no refunds outside of lithuania, too much hassle internationally #pcparts #laptopparts #thinkpad #thinkpadparts #lenovo #hardware #nvme #ram #battery #selling #saving

Bought a second-hand #ThinkPad L14 Gen 2a (#AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 5650U). Plenty fast enough for what I do, at about 15% of the price of a current model. Installed #FedoraLinux and, so far, everything works, even the fingerprint reader. Repairable, upgradeable, and a small reminder that we don't always need the latest hardware. #FrugalComputing #RightToRepair

My notebook is faster, since I replaced the keyboard! This is not a joke. The keyboard bezel is the central structure everything is attached to on the #Thinkpad X13s. So to replace it, you really need to disassemble everything. Including the heatsink and reattaching it with fresh thermal grease. By coincidence the stuff I used seems to be better than the original. @musenhain Hui, allesamt schöne Geräte! Mein erstes halbwegs modernes #ThinkPad war damals (2009?) auch ein gebrauchtes T42. Hat richtig Spaß gemacht damit in der Berufsschule zu arbeiten :D Schön, dass du die Geräte so lange verwendest!

@stdevel@chaos.social ...und mit diesem #ThinkPad fing die Abhä.. äh Begeisterung für edle und zeitlose Notebooks an: dem 760L von 1996. Ich hatte es 2008 als Schüler günstig auf #eBay ersteigert um zu schauen, ob ThinkPads wirklich so gut mit Linux laufen. Das Gerät war mit einem #Intel Pentium 1 (90 MHz), 24 MB EDO-RAM und 2.1 GB-Festplatte damals schon ein Oldtimer. Auf dem Gerät lief zuletzt #CRUX Linux (https://crux.nu) - und das trotz limitierter Ressourcen sogar mit Sound und WLAN 🤯

Hab mir einen USB-Stick mit #Ubuntu 26.04 bestellt. Falls jetzt Kritik aufkommt. Ein leerer Stick hätte auch nicht weniger gekostet. Und ja ich weiß dass man Linux auf einen Stick in Eigenregie bringen kann. Ich habe gelesen, dass diese neue Version von Ubuntu 6GB RAM benötigt. Das ist mehr als Windows 11 braucht. Ich habe noch ein altes #ThinkPad T430. Das läuft demnächst mit #Linux

Bei meinem treuen #thinkpad L380 Yoga (ca. 8 Jahre alt und im Dauereinsatz) zickt der Touchscreen: Ein Bereich am linken Bildschirmrand sendet dauerhaft ein Touch-Event. Hat jemand eine Idee, ob man sowas prinzipiell reparieren kann? Es ist Wacom-Technologie verbaut. Ich habe den Touchscreen erst mal abgeschaltet, aber ich benutze den schon viel und fürchte, ich brauche ein neues Convertible. #linux

FreeBSD 15.1 on ThinkPad T480 impression after 2 weeks on the new release:

  • Stable 5 GHz WiFi with several hundreds Mbps (native iwlwifi driver)

  • Hardware Video acceleration working in Chromium (via libva-intel-media-driver)

  • Factorio running absolutely stable with 60FPS

Battery life after powerd optimizations: decent. Way over 6h (with dual batteries)

Noteworthy: Sound is working perfectly via pulseaudio Webcam works perfectly via webcamd WiFi, Ethernet and Docking works flawless Virtualization via BHYVE working out of the box.

This is a perfectly usable setup! I don't currently miss anything.
