Plasma 6.7 is out and landing soon on your distro of choice! You can look forward to easier menu customization, better control over your mics, and, as for virtual desktops... Well, well, well! You get keyboard navigation and the much anticipated feature of having separate virtual desktops on different monitors. Find out about all the new stuff packed into Plasma 6.7 here: https://kde.org/announcements/plasma/6/6.7.0/ #Plasma6 #desktop #FreeSoftware #OpenSource

@Tutanota@mastodon.social Have started self-hosting a while ago! Both laptop and raspberry pi are Linux ( #fedora and #dietpi ) My main social media are #mastodon and #lemmy . Main search engine is a self-hosted #searxng . And most importantly, just paid for a 1 year Revolutionary membership for #TutaMail ;)

PSA regarding a change in how Secure Boot will work in Fedora soon. The change isn't urgent, but it is something you should take a look at. If you have any questions about this, please ask in our forum. 🙏 ➡️ https://fedoramagazine.org/expiration-of-microsoft-secure-boot-keys/ Forum: https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/c/ask/6 #Fedora #Linux #OpenSource #Cybersecurity #InfoSec #SecureBoot

Getting a package into Fedora takes more than writing a spec file, and Jakub Kadlčík has spent a decade figuring out exactly where the friction is.

As a Copr developer and maintainer, Jakub has been building tools to fix the parts of Fedora packaging that frustrate contributors. Join us as we learn how Jakub:

  • Introduced automated CI to the package review queue
  • Made a sponsor-finder tool for new contributors
  • Thinks we should move to @forgejo@floss.social

updated my laptop and desktop to fedora 44. So far smooth sailing for both, it seems faster (especially updates thanks to migration away from PackageKit), and it also supposedly fixed the issues Nvidia users had while installing (can't verify because I only have AMD stuff). Kernel 7.0 and Plasma 6 are also nice to have, default NTSYNC support will make WINE run faster, and there's new hardware support. Fedora 44 looks to be a great release. I hope others will find it to be the same. #Fedora

CVE-2026-43284 / "Dirty Frag" .. Antoher one of those nasty local-privilege-escallations. Quickfix for Centos/Fedora based systems: printf 'install esp4 /bin/false\ninstall esp6 /bin/false\ninstall rxrpc /bin/false\n' > /etc/modprobe.d/dirtyfrag.conf && rmmod esp4 esp6 rxrpc 2>/dev/null; true Caution: That also effectively disables IPSEC and AFS client support. But it can easily be reverted by removing the file when a patched kernel arrives. #dirtyfrag #cve_2026_43284 #security #centos #fedora #redhat

Hey there #linux users, what #distro are you using and why? I used to run #archlinux, then #fedora. Currently on #ubuntu for the proprietary Nvidia support, though I generally prefer the vanilla gnome experience.

Feed: All Latest | Dangerous New Linux Exploit Gives Attackers Root Access to Countless Computers by Dan Goodin, Ars Technica AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. A newly disclosed Linux kernel vulnerability, dubbed CopyFail (CVE‑2026‑31431), enables a local privilege‑escalation that lets an unprivileged attacker obtain root on virtually any Linux distribution with a single, unmodified script. Released by security firm Theori after a brief private disclosure, the flaw resides in the kernel’s crypto API where an AEAD template copy operation overwrites adjacent memory, allowing the attacker to elevate privileges, break out of containers, compromise multi‑tenant systems, and hijack CI/CD pipelines. Although patches were quickly issued for several kernel versions (7.0, 6.19.12, 6.18.12, 6.12.85, 6.6.137, 6.1.170, 5.15.204, and 5.10.254), many distributions had not yet applied them, leaving countless desktops, servers, and cloud environments exposed. Experts warn that the exploit’s reliability surpasses earlier high‑profile kernel bugs like Dirty Pipe and Dirty Cow, and they urge all Linux users to verify that their systems incorporate the relevant fixes or follow vendor mitigation guidance. Daughter 1.0 and I can confirm that #nevernesstoeverness works flawless on #Fedora :fedora: with a bit of tinkering to get it installed through Steam (using DW Proton latest). Note: you have to download and install it manually, you can use Heroic, I chose Steam. #linuxgaming

Before trying to mitigate, it turns out my #fedora 43 workstation (not upgraded to 44 yet) had already updated and not vulnerable to #copyfail
