I've now updated the #Budgie Desktop stack to 10.10.3 in #Fedora 46 (rawhide). Will sanity check it on the nightly ISO and assuming all looks good, I'll merge it into Fedora 45 tomorrow and check if I need to file any exceptions to get it landed for the release. Will also be updating my local set of Budgie Desktop packages + deps for aerynOS tomorrow and get that submitted for review!

@mhoye@cosocial.ca I recently installed #Fedora #CoreOS on my home server. It uses a configuration system that can fully clone a server. You can boot the installer and then feed it the config you have for the other server and it basically duplicates it.

here's another #permacomputing salvage - a Lenovo #Thinkpad T490 rocking #Fedora #Linux. I got it with a "dead" screen, so even before it got to me started looking for cheap 14" FHD panels. after I got it and started testing with an external display, noticed during a restart that the screen showed eversoslight activity so grabbed my phone and shone light at it and... yepp, that's a flawless image, albeit without backlight. 1/

I already know this is a mistake to ask, but fuck it, it's Friday: Linux nerds: I grow weary of Debian. Please recommend me a distribution that is similar to Fedora, but which either uses apt or has as robust of a repository as apt. My single gripe with Fedora is that there are magnitudes more .deb packages than there are .rpm. Please do not recommend compiling from source, I'm looking for an everyday desktop computer, not a fucking project. And more importantly DO NOT recommend Ubuntu. I fucking hate Ubuntu. "What distro made you stop distro hopping" is probably the question I get the most from "new" #linux users, in terms of what distro to use. Here is the truth, no distro did that completely. I still check out new and old distros, I still checkout new WM and DEs. But there is a distro and DE I never swap away from and that is #fedora with #gnome as may dialy driver. The reason for this is stability and easy of use! I do not claim that Fedora is the best or that Gnome is perfect.

How can a desktop environment like GNOME be so popular when, honestly, nobody would use it without extensions? Every day there are new extensions for window management, making the desktop look nicer... The problem is that extensions sometimes mess with each other (for keyboard shortcuts for example) and break after every GNOME update. Thank goodness Niri and DMS exist if you want a lightweight and actually functional desktop. Really hope that Fedora 45 will come with an official Niri and DMS spin. #linux #gnome #niri #danklinux #dms #fedora

In der "aktuellen" Ausgabe des 64'er-Magazins gibt es einen Artikel zu Datex-P. Ich habe mal ausgerechnet, wie lange es dauern und was es kosten würde, zu den damaligen Bedingungen das ISO-Image von #Fedora Server 40 (ca. 2,5GB) herunterzuladen. I've published some patterns for making your own tiny, provenance and governance controlled #ubi #universalbaseimages based containers for in-house #zerocve container images ; whilst retaining your full support and lifecycle guarantees from #redhat here : https://codeberg.org/aenertia/rhhi-comparison the tl;dr is for a lot of industry the dream of being able to consume and use #fedora #hummingbird / red-hat hardened images is just that. ubi-micro based pipelines give you pretty much all the upsides and few of the downsides of ingesting raw upstream bleeding edge, whilst still giving you the standard support case/2 am phone path. And for established enterprises is probably the right patern to counter all this LLM weaponization chatter.
