@frameworkcomputer@fosstodon.org got owned. Or rather, their 3rd party business intelligence provider Metabase. So chances are, your name, address, phone number and email are now in the hands of criminals if you entrusted these to Framework. The weak point here is third-party data storage you don't control. Review Metabase's security advisories and reset any credentials that could have been exposed through Metabase access. Reward: You've received a Cursed Vendor Trust Token. It is untradeable and currently on fire. #DataBreach #CyberSecurity #Framework #Metabase #InfoSec #AchievementUnlocked (2/2)

@frameworkcomputer@fosstodon.org sent me this email (they didn't post it on blog or fediverse): Notice of Limited Data Breach We confirmed that the following information was accessed:     Full name     Email address     Login IPs     Billing and shipping address information         Country         Address         City         State         Zip code         Phone number         Company For Framework for Business customers, we are investigating whether the following information may additionally have been accessed:     Company     Phone     VAT     EIN     Billing Email No other personally identifiable information, order information, or payment information was accessed. Dear Valued Framework Customer, We are writing to inform you of a data breach at our business intelligence database provider Metabase that resulted in an attacker accessing customer names, email addresses, phone numbers, and addresses. Your information was in the database that was accessed in this breach. This breach did not include order or payment information. We have full details on the incident below. We are deeply sorry for this breach of information, and are reviewing and improving our methodology for data storage in external database vendors. We are also in the process of notifying the regulatory authorities in each region where relevant regulations exist. Note that while regulations in most regions do not require notification for breaches of names, email addresses, phone numbers, and addresses, we are sending this email to you regardless to ensure you have visibility and can take any actions needed. What happened? On August 6th, 2026 at 9am Pacific Time, Metabase notified us of a breach of their systems with the following email message: On Monday, August 3, we discovered that Metabase Cloud was attacked by someone utilizing an unknown (“0-day”) security vulnerability in versions 1.58 and above. We immediately blocked the endpoints used for the attack, then quickly identified and patched the vulnerability. We notified law enforcement, and we have engaged with a third party forensics firm to conduct an independent investigation. Your instance of Metabase was vulnerable to this 0-day. Therefore, to protect your company, we recommend you: Rotate the credentials for every database connected to your instance; and Review the admin accounts on your instance and remove anything you don't recognize. We also discovered that the attacker was able to gain access to your instance. We created a report on the actions we believe the attacker took on your instance, which includes log files, and which you can get from the Metabase Store at [removed url]. (If you do not have access to the Metabase Store, are having issues accessing the report, or do not want to click on a link in an unexpected email, you can log into your instance directly and reach us at Help > Get help in the grid menu in the upper right hand corner. We'll confirm this message is from us and email you the report.) This report is based on our own application logs. We did not query or read the data in your connected databases. Depending on the jurisdictions in which you operate and kinds of data your instance connects to, you may have notification obligations under applicable laws. If you have concerns in this regard, we recommend you assess potential notification obligations with your company’s legal or compliance experts. We regret any inconvenience this incident may cause you, and we are here to support you. If you have questions, please reply to this email or email us at [removed email address], and we'll get back to you as quickly as we can. Sameer Al-Sakran Founder and CEO Metabase We immediately investigated the logs Metabase provided to us and confirmed that our database instance was accessed by the attacker. 1/2 #framework #breach #hack #metabase

I placed a pre order for the #framework 13 pro and was quick enough to get into Batch 1. That device is now about to ship. The 32Gb of RAM was priced at £439 (!!) ... but since then, the price has now increased to £800. For just the RAM. This is just insane. Given I bought 32Gb DRR4 in 2025 for £55 ... if you're thinking of a computer purchase, do it now.

Aside from their weird political stance #framework laptops are also just not that good. I mean they market their Laptops as Linux-friendly but then put in a fucking #mediatek wifi chip. Why??? Mediatek has had a long history of their chips not working well with open source drivers and it hasn't stopped recently. I am currently using my phone's wifi because this annoying wifi chip only gets like 50KB/s throughput in some places.| Nevermind that I had to replace my laptop's screen 2 times because the first one was flickering and the second one they sent me didn't fit because mounts were offset.

I have a #framework laptop with #AMD Ryzen, AI 9 HX 370, whatever processor. I downloaded #Debian from the webpage for AMD with KDE and one with GNOME. It stated that these ISO images are specifically tailored to AMD. When I try to boot from them, I get an error message that it's the wrong architecture. X86-64 vs i686 I don't understand that and I can't find another AMD download. @frameworkputer@bird.makeup

Anybody switching from #mac to #framework in the near future? I’m hoping my laptop comes soon, as I’m getting even more excited to see how things work out.

“How The Israel/Lebanon Deal Destroys Lebanese Sovereignty And The MoU With Iran” by The Dissident on Substack @palestine@fedibird.com @Palestine@masto.ai @palestine@lemmy.ml @iran @iraq@mastodon.social @palestinenews@gts.liberated.press “But as Elijah J. Magnier noted, ‘The #Washington #framework effectively empties paragraph 1 of the US-Iran MOU of its meaning. That paragraph required an end to the war, respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty, and Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory. The new framework replaces that obligation with a conditional mechanism: Israel withdraws only when it decides that Hezbollah has been disarmed and the threat has disappeared. In other words, Netanyahu has turned an Israeli duty to withdraw into a Lebanese obligation to prove itself under Israeli supervision’.” https://open.substack.com/pub/the307/p/how-the-israellebanon-deal-destroys #Press #SocialMedia #Gaza #PalestinianGenocide #Zionism #SettlerColonialism #Resistance #EradicateZionism #DecolonizePalestine #GlobaliseTheIntifada #Iran #War #Trump #Israel #Lebanon #Hezbollah #MoU #Sovereignty #Withdrawl

The parallel between Proton's sponsorship of Vincent Lapierre and Framework's DHH/Omarchy sponsorship is striking. What separates them is the response: Proton terminated the deal and acknowledged the misstep. Framework doubled down on "software first" neutrality while critics raised legitimate concerns about who they were financially backing. Different outcomes, same underlying issue, companies claiming ethical stances need to vet partnerships consistently, not just reactively. #Proton #Framework #Omarchy #DHH #Privacy #FOSS #OpenSource

I've been interested in Framework's offerings, and have been exploring configurations. Their new announcements have made me painfully aware of their non "pro" offerings, like the non aluminum shells, or one piece keyboard and trackpad options. I've largely missed the early batches. Question for those in the know, how good are these standard parts? Are they still pretty solid or is it worth holding out for a later batch of the newer versions? #FrameworkLaptop #framework

As I've seen people confused about this. Yes, the chassis and the keyboard can support older standard Framework 13 non-pro. Quote: "Compatible with both the Framework Laptop 13 and Framework Laptop 13 Pro." https://frame.work/products/framework-laptop-13-pro-chassis-kit-graphite?v=FRANKK00A1 Register your interest, folks. If this is what you want. #Linux #Framework

The state of #Framework funding fascist DHH:

  • David Heinemeier Hansson is still a fascist. He is annoyingly part of various right-wing tech communities. He created a spin of Arch called Omarchy. Hyprland is the window manager for Omarchy.
  • Framework probably doesn't support him directly. Previously, they sent him a laptop and praised Omarchy. They also sponsored DHH's sour grapes Ruby on Rails conference last year. He made the conference after his keynote was cancelled at another one.
  • Framework sponsors Hyprland for 600 Euros a month.
  • DHH has not been banned from Hyprland and still files occasional bug reports.
  • Hyprland itself is yikes-adjacent. Some say it's on an improvement trajectory regarding its politics.
  • Everyone posting in favor of DHH runs the fascist "I'm just a little guy" routine (see pic). Where you antagonize entire ethnic groups and say they are subhuman (e.g. "low-average-IQ regions") then say you got kicked out of Linux communities because of "petty politics".
