@subm3rge@infosec.exchange Having a 1.5kg laptop with 24 cores is "nice", and arguable more *powerful* than an ARM SoC with ~50nm die. However, the actual usefulness diminishes sharply behind typical deskwork tasks that can absolutely be done in a performant way on 4 cores in a lean #linux #distro. And all of that has been reverse engineered to the X so big tech really has no moat against people doing their own thing.

I'm itching to start using a new #distro. As a recent #Linux user '#Mint' since a few months ago, I started to feel the urge to try a new distro with a new #DE. I have in mind to try #Debian with #Gnome. My search said Debian is community-driven, their #governance is #decentralised, #democratic, and more aligned with #FOSS values than other distro out there. If I want the same values, I should choose #KDEPLASMA. But, I really don't want to currently. I'm finding myself curious about Gnome ATM. I'm in despair if my combination is fit. 😅

Hey there #linux users, what #distro are you using and why? I used to run #archlinux, then #fedora. Currently on #ubuntu for the proprietary Nvidia support, though I generally prefer the vanilla gnome experience.

Pronto estará listado en https://mirrors.slackware.com/mirrorlist/ El proceso de actualización de la lista de mirrors de Slackware es mucho más lenta que las otras por lo que puede pasar un buen tiempo antes de que aparezca ahi, pero este fue el primer mirror que levantamos y está funcionando hace casi un mes. El mirror incluye todas las versiones históricas y actuales de Slackware así como también las Slackbuilds que son scripts de compilación de paquetes de la comunidad. El mirror es solo de las slackbuilds, no la página Slackbuilds, pero se puede configurar el sbopkg para que utilice este mirror. Los diferentes mirrors pueden accederse desde nuestra página: Mirror Undernet --> https://mirror.undernet.uy/ Los mirrors estan dispenibles por FTP, HTTP, HTTPS y RSYNC. BREAKING: ⚠️ Con todo el orgullo y emoción, tenemos que anunciar un verdadero hito en Undernet Uruguay. Son 3 Noticias así que van en formato hilo 🧵 1) Quedó oficialmente aprobado por el equipo de #debian-mirrors, un mirror completo de Debian GNU/Linux en los servidores de Undernet Uruguay

-> Debian: https://mirror.undernet.uy/debian/ -> Debian archive: https://mirror.undernet.uy/debian-archive/ -> Debian ISO-CDs: https://mirror.undernet.uy/debian-cd/ El listado de mirrors de Debian actualmente muestran un solo mirror (mantenido por la gente de CURE Rocha desde hace años) y recientemente también se registró junto con el nuestro, otro mirror de interior.edu.uy (que en realidad venía funcionando hace un tiempo ya). Nuestro mirror junto con los otros ya está listado en la página de status de mirrors de Debian: -> https://mirror-master.debian.org/status/mirror-status.html Por lo que pronto habrán 3 mirrors en Uruguay de las cuales el nuestro será el único sostenido por una comunidad autónoma y autogestionada. No solo eso, también nuestro mirror incluye todas las versiones archive de Debian y las históricas primeras, anteriores a Debian 3. También el mirror incluye las ISO-CD netinstall y businesscard ISOs para poder descargar, crear buteables y luego instalar usando el mirror. Tener un mirror local nos dá soberanía, nos independiza un poco más y hace que el tráfico sea local. Sostener un mirror es un compromiso a largo plazo y requiere recursos que estamos dispuestos a poner a disposición como los que se ponen para otros proyectos importantes que llevamos adelante en nuestra pequeña red. Finalmente quiero destacar que los otros 2 mirrors uruguayos son de instituciones públicas y en particular, la Universidad de la República (cure.edu.uy e interior.edu.uy) lo que muestra que importante que es un mirror de Debian.
