Fediday 2026 will take place September 11. - 13. aboard c-base, Berlin. FediDay is a networking event for people in the Fediverse. With talks, workshops and networking opportunities, we want to spread knowledge about the Fediverse, promote creative solutions and strengthen the exchange between developers, administrators, academia, civil society and content creators. We are convinced that a federated and free network is the best way to establish a sustainable social media alternative to Big Tec

Ruby Central publishes an incident report about the RubyGems repo takeover—and it immediately reopens all the wounds. The original controversy: Ruby Central (the nonprofit) asserted control over RubyGems and Bundler repos, removed maintainers from GitHub orgs, and blurred the line between running a service and owning the ecosystem.
Investigations later alleged Shopify manipulated Ruby Central into the takeover. Now the report tries to provide closure but the community isn't having it.
