#Europe is so obsessed with the discussion of the #Ceuta incident, not because it was a proper crisis which demanded a better political response than the one it got; rather, because it has stripped the #EU of its perennial mask of #hypocrisy, openly exposing all of its ugly, racist face. And they're aware of that. If this was mainland #Spain we were talking about, maybe the panic would've been... maybe not justified, but perhaps expectable to a degree. But the events took place in #Africa, where the spaniards happen to keep a colony in the midst of what should be the moroccans own land. And there the moroccans drowned, and were expelled, as if they were a plague roaming the house instead of legitimate owners of the land. That the entire world had seen this development on their TV screens, is what makes europeans uncomfortable. Not the handling of the crisis. But the fact that the mainstream was exposed, in front of the world, as being in no way different to the radical right.

LoL: "A US government map of Africa mislabeled every country during a state department presentation at a global conference in Brazil this week, causing a stir among attenders who took screenshots and posted them online. Reuters viewed a video of the presentation given at the Aids 2026 conference in Rio de Janeiro, which shows the errant map displayed halfway during a presentation about the state department’s new health agreements. A Reuters analysis found the image of the map included in the presentation contained an artificial intelligence watermark that signals it was made with OpenAI tools. The company said it was investigating the report. The state ‌department said it took “full responsibility” ‌for the confusion caused and that the map had been produced by a team member who hastily changed ‌the slide deck before the event." https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jul/30/government-map-mislabels-african-countries?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other #USA #Africa #Geography #Imperialism #Neocolonialism

#Africa Extreme weather is also exposing long-standing weaknesses in health systems, particularly medicine supply chains. Floods, droughts and other extreme weather events don't just close clinics. They interrupt antiretroviral therapy by damaging facilities, blocking transport routes, displacing patients and staff, and disrupting the supply chains that keep medicines flowing https://allafrica.com/stories/202607310020.html #ClimateChange #UpheavalClimate #ClimateReversal #pollution #ecology #environment #climate

If you go to #Africa, you will notice that many educated people speak the way people now call #AI language. Not because ChatGPT taught us to speak like that. ChatGPT learned it from us. Take a university lecture from before the AI boom, transcribe it, and you will find the same formal structure, careful explanations, and academic tone. Maybe a bit more verbose and a little less confident, but the style is remarkably similar. The reason is simple: most educated Africans speak at least two languages, often three or four. The way we organize our thoughts makes perfect sense in Arabic, Swahili, Zulu, Wolof, French, or Darija. But when we switch to English, some of that structure comes along for the ride. For example, when an African says, The thing is…, Basically…, or So…, it isn't because we are trying to burn more tokens. It is often just a tiny pause while our brain assembles the next sentence. That previous sentence was one of those pauses, by the way. So the A in AI stands for Africa. The I stands for #india Remember when politicians wanted to keep Africans and Indians out from some countries? Well… now you have invited both into your hardware. They are there every time you press Enter.

#StateDepartment #Map Mislabels #African Countries at #AIDS Conference

#Nigeria , a coastal country in Western #Africa , was landlocked in the #Sahara , among other errors. The department said it had been “hastily altered.”
