Australia's #coal consumption is about the same as Germany but we have a much smaller population #auspol #energytransition #renewableenergy https://www.visualcapitalist.com/the-countries-that-consume-the-most-coal/ Crossposted with @openvibe@mastodon.social

Hmm. The unfortunate reality of the Carnot cycle and the need to not boil the fish? "The latest French heatwave has forced the temporary shutdown of three nuclear power stations to avoid the discharge of warm cooling water into overheated waterways." https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/clye4z168edo #Energy #NuclearEnergy #EnergyTransition

The House Bill 6 scandal is the largest public corruption case in Ohio history. Utility companies secretly spent millions of dollars to influence elections and pass a law that forced Ohio residents to pay for failing power plants. This timeline shows what happened, who was involved, and how the scandal unfolded from 2019 to today. #FirstEnergy #Ohio #Corruption #Climate #EnergyMastodon #EnergyTransition #Householder https://www.commoncause.org/ohio/resources/a-cycle-of-corruption-a-timeline-of-the-householder-hb6-scandal/

If you're going to organise objections, then it's probably wise to arrange for people to turn up. “The Commission received one registration to speak at the public meeting, from an elected member of the local Council who is already separately meeting with the Panel regarding the application,” https://reneweconomy.com.au/planning-meeting-over-solar-and-battery-project-cancelled-after-none-of-133-objectors-bothers-to-show-up/ #AusPol #EnergyTransition

The private market can't deliver a rapid #decarbonization of the economy. It's internal features prevent the coordination required to transform production. 🌎 Melanie Brusseler writes for Brief Ecology: Decarbonization Is a Coordination Problem – and Private Markets Can't Solve It. https://www.briefecology.com/the-eco-update-29/decarbonization-is-a-coordination-problem-and-private-markets-cant-solve-it #decarbonization #renewables #capitalism #energy #energytransition #solarpunksunday

Wrote something for the local paper. It is about the mid-transition and how locals shouldn't count on the gas stations that are half way between their exurb and the city always being there as EV adoption picks up. It was inspired by this @TransitionShow@mastodon.energy interview with Emily Grubert from 2022. Designing the Mid-transition https://xenetwork.org/ets/episodes/episode-185-designing-the-mid-transition/ #energytransition #climate #energy The paper didn't publish the letter on their website so sadly no link. Part of text in alt-text.

You can’t decouple economic growth from energy consumption. Building the future requires power. Look at the AI boom—global data center energy use is approaching 1,050 TWh because advanced computing requires massive upfront power. The broader economy works the exact same way. Critics panicking over short-term emission spikes lack a 10-year vision. Technology scales exponentially. With global clean energy spending at $2.2 trillion and clean tech driving 99% of new generating capacity, market dynamics will naturally cause emissions to recede as the infrastructure matures. We don’t solve global challenges with economic stagnation or austerity. We solve them by leaning into growth, building infrastructure, and letting innovation deliver the long-term efficiency that benefits everyone. #CdnPoli #EnergyTransition #MarkCarney #AIBoom #TechRealism #CleanTech #EconomicGrowth

#MarkCarney is yesterday's man. This is an absolutely hopeless failure of the moment. He must be defeated before he can complete the great harm that is his plan in turning Canada's future during a time of #EnergyTransition over to the foreign-owned #BigOil world burners. #cdnpoli RE: https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:w5pxbmkjntxfw6mt4emennhv/post/3mpjsvqd2lk2q

I was asleep at the switch when this came out a few days ago. It is *very* worth reading what @pluralistic@mamot.fr has to say. What Trump is doing is horrendous but some things might *inadvertently* change in a positive way - more quickly - because he's doing them. https://pluralistic.net/2026/04/20/praxis/#acceleration #trump #EnergyTransition #solar #renewables

@aptitude@mastodon.social Imagine where we'd be today, if Thorium Molten Salt Reactors were fully developed during the last several decades. The tech would be perfected by now, and gone global, instead of facing derailment again, from ignorant conflicts causing mass destabilization #EnergyTransition #Energy

American Efficient & affiliated companies must pay about $1.1 billion for “one of the largest and most brazen frauds” in the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s history. American Efficient violated the market rules of the PJM Interconnection and MISO by selling them energy efficiency resources that it didn’t control or that wouldn’t reduce load beyond what would have happened anyway. #EnergyMastodon #Corruption #Climate #EnergyTransition https://www.utilitydive.com/news/ferc-american-efficient-fraud-market-manipulation-pjm-miso/817670/

China's renewable energy expansion has reached staggering scale. In 2023 alone, the country added 216 GW of solar capacity — more than the total ever installed in the United States. Wind added another 100 GW. Total renewable capacity now exceeds 1.5 TW. For comparison, the entire US power grid (all sources) stands at approximately 1.2 TW. This is driven by energy security needs, market dominance (China controls 80% of solar supply chains), and economics. Solar prices have fallen 90% in a decade, making it the cheapest energy source in history. The challenge now is transmission. China is building ultra-high-voltage lines and massive battery storage to move power from western deserts to eastern industrial centers. For investors: grid infrastructure, copper, lithium, and rare earth metals are the strategic assets of the coming decade. #China #Renewables #Solar #EnergyTransition #Investing #Grid https://vir.group/
