Debian 12 (Bookworm) is now in LTS (until June 2028). You don't need to change your apt sources, but you can expect fewer updates and you should be moving to Trixie where possible. https://wiki.debian.org/LTS/Using #Debian #Linux

fans:

  • tpacpi: /proc/acpi/ibm/fan

sensors:

  • hwmon: /sys/class/hwmon name: coretemp indices: [1, 2, 3, 4, 5] # Package id 0 + Core 0–3

  • hwmon: /sys/class/hwmon name: nvme indices: [1] # NVMe Composite

Stufe min°C max°C

levels:

  • [0, 0, 50] # Lüfter aus
  • [1, 46, 57] # kaum hörbar
  • [2, 54, 64] # sehr leise
  • [4, 61, 71] # moderat
  • [6, 68, 80] # schnell
  • [“level auto”, 77, 32767] # BIOS übernimmt ab 77°CMit sudo thinkfan -n testen, ob thinkfan tut, was es machen soll.

gig offer, sysadmin (and adjacent) Hover or focus to reveal Sensitive
Got some budget for loosely scoped infra work. This gig is remote and primarily asynchronous with a group of 3-5 other engineers. Must be comfortable with #Linux command line, able to configure applications like webserver & databases on the #Debian / #Ubuntu stack, and willing to learn whatever open source stuffs we're tinkering with this week. Networking experience is a plus, especially if you're familiar with #OpenVPN and/or #wireguard. #boostOK #libreOps

I'm having trouble with my #RPi4 again. #Debian updated the Linux kernel a few days ago to 6.12.90 (a security update); since then I've been getting segfaults, and when it reboots sometimes I get a kernel panic. Not really sure what to do; I could update the image on my SD card. I've been running Debian Stable for maybe 20 years. This is the first time I've had such problems.

I guess since the whole "Flatpak creating a dependency on systemd" bullshit has surfaced this week there has been some other conversations about systemd going on throughout the Fediverse. I've seen some oblique references to Debian making an effort to make OpenRC more viable as an alternate init system. That's about all I've gathered on my hit-n-run timeline surfing the last several days. Not sure if this is an official Debian project or just someone's wish list. Anyone have the skinny? Links to actual discussions? #Linux #Debian #systemd #OpenRC #Flatpak

So I guess, I will need to talk a little more. Espcially since I want to try leaving #debian #systemd since I feel like it's going to shit but #devuan is not up to the part. #alpine and #arch could be fun but they have strage #postgresql packages with missing extension and I don't have time nor patience to understand why

Feed: All Latest | Dangerous New Linux Exploit Gives Attackers Root Access to Countless Computers by Dan Goodin, Ars Technica AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. A newly disclosed Linux kernel vulnerability, dubbed CopyFail (CVE‑2026‑31431), enables a local privilege‑escalation that lets an unprivileged attacker obtain root on virtually any Linux distribution with a single, unmodified script. Released by security firm Theori after a brief private disclosure, the flaw resides in the kernel’s crypto API where an AEAD template copy operation overwrites adjacent memory, allowing the attacker to elevate privileges, break out of containers, compromise multi‑tenant systems, and hijack CI/CD pipelines. Although patches were quickly issued for several kernel versions (7.0, 6.19.12, 6.18.12, 6.12.85, 6.6.137, 6.1.170, 5.15.204, and 5.10.254), many distributions had not yet applied them, leaving countless desktops, servers, and cloud environments exposed. Experts warn that the exploit’s reliability surpasses earlier high‑profile kernel bugs like Dirty Pipe and Dirty Cow, and they urge all Linux users to verify that their systems incorporate the relevant fixes or follow vendor mitigation guidance. MX Linux is a fine debian derivative with a dev by the name anticapitalista on the core team. Anticapitalista runs another debian derivative antiX which they brand officially as anti-fascist. Just saying if your looking for #Debian or #Ubuntu alternatives, or distros where systemd is optional they might be worth checking out.

@FediFollows@social.growyourown.services you ought to include the contacts of #opensource champions like the #developers of #linux #distros like #mxlinux #linuxMint #debian #archlinux, #developers of some prime #mastodon instances, #piefed instances, #codeberg , #github and email services like #mailo and #proton. That way, we would be able to reach out to them through #socialmedia whenever we need their support. This informal channel is oftentimes better than your regular email.
