Since @media aural and @media speech are deprecated in CSS since at least Media Queries level 4:

What is the current preferred way to detect (preferably in CSS) when a user is using text-to-speech output so that document elements that have no relevance or can’t be rendered aurally can be hidden/skipped?

I’ve looked through the MQ4 media features list and don’t see anything relevant; but surely I can’t be the only one who wants to do this?

RE: https://mastodon.social/@teohhanhui/115362396940928728 Hi Fediverse :ABlobCatCozyWave: Do you mind boosting this toot (or the quoted toot below) for my pal here :blobfox3c: ? He's looking for a new Rust job, and he is very passionate about developing software in Rust. :blabfox: I also kindly request that anyone interested in hiring take a look at his Github page and evaluate his numerous high-quality contributions to many open-source projects over the years. He's good at what he does. :blobcat_nwn: He has also been very patient with me and has shown excellent attention to detail (I'm pretty bad at this) whenever we code things together for fun. :blobcatpaw: #fedihire #rust #rustlang #programming #webdev #softwareengineering #work #job

Re: flat web design. Buttons that don’t look like buttons. I blew someone’s mind today. She’s about my age, competent at her job, but not much into technology. She complained that she always needs to scroll past the weeks in her web-based calendar. I pressed the current date shown in the top-left corner above her appointments, which pulled up a big date overview by month. She was so excited, asked me how I did that. Mind you, the date was shown as simple black letters on a white background, with only a black, downwards-pointing chevron a bit to the right. It hardly suggested interactivity, especially to those not knowledgeable about web design. I often think that flat design was a mistake, and today’s situation was a good example of bad user experience (UX) stemming from non-intuitive controls. #UX #WebDesign #WebDev #accessibility

#Introduction I am a senior Full-Stack and AI engineer based in Japan. I am seeking P2P partnerships for some full-time US/CA remote roles. Personally, I am curious and easygoing. I enjoy reading, hiking, quiet cafes, and hot, long conversations about tech, business, AI, remote work, and everyday life. #Shopify #Python #AI #WebDev #FullStack #RemoteWork #Ecommerce #Tech #Coding #WFH #Business #Startup #Collaboration #Partner #PassiveIncome #SideHustle #Micro-Economy #Self-finance #Self-employed

I know this is lazy, but curious to see if somebody already has a good solution for this. #WebDev I want to extract some basic info from the logs on my website. Not much, but I need to send all my tracking data to Google for this small task. What's a good library in PHP I might use to efficiently locate hits on a specific page from a very large log file? I don't know python but guessing this might be easier in python? I'm planning to stuff a simple tally of hits by date into an SQL table that I can query when needed.

According to https://letsencrypt.status.io/ "Stopping Issuance for Potential Incident - We have been made aware of a potential incident and are shutting down all issuance." Does that uh, happen often or? #letsencrypt #webdev #infosec

TIL the CSS contrast-color() is a focus for 2026 Interop, so it should be accessible (ahem) soon. This function, which works in Firefox and the latest Safari will automatically calculate the appropriate foreground colour when given a background colour to achieve a WCAG ‘AA’ rating. No more having to do it manually! More info: https://modern-css.com/readable-text-without-manual-contrast-checks/ #css #webdev

I have an obnoxious problem with crawlers eating bandwidth on my personal web site—not just the fact that crawlers consume so much bandwidth, but rather a behaviour that is absolutely next-level. And I think it's something that precludes the use of caching, but there are probably many of you with more knowledge than I have and who may know what can be done 🧵⤵️ #IndieWeb #WebDev #PersonalSite

Kids (teenagers) are using computer-assisted development (Claude and others). But what they produce is weak from a system design perspective. Let's teach them about contrast, UI and usability (UX)! Better now than never. #webdev #ux #ui #design #accessibility #a11y #claude #ai #llm

Hello,

Currently experiencing the same issue.

  • API calls that used to work now return error: unauthenticated
  • Token creation from the webapp return Whoops! Something went wrong!

How was this resolved for you last time ? Thx

@kiko@indieweb.social @pixelfed@mastodon.social @dansup@pixelfed.social @dansup@mastodon.social Hi ! Thanks for your answer. Well that's why I tried to go to my profile > settings > application where I did not find any previous token nor was I able to create a new one.... I'm sure I'm missing something obvious but cannot find what. (Error messages are not very informative neither from the API nor the UI. And documentation is still incomplete) #pixelfed #api #webdev

What's so annoying about computer-assisted development using Claude and co.? That its context is so limited that each session it has to go over and read files over and over. It loses details such as we keep only thumbnails, not full images. It is not on par with junior dev, because junior dev would remember that if an icon is used once, it ios used always and not leave three files with different layouts. etc. etc. #ai #coding #llm #development #webdev #claude #gemini #codex #copilot #tools

• I'll give it a couple of years to see if it gets abandoned or if wp plugin devs migrate over • Insanely stupid to launch on april 1st, no one in my networks (inc me!) boosted it as they didn't want to look an april fool • I assumed it was april fool joke riffing on the next/vinext fiasco)

Still! Exciting to see CMS innovation! #wordpress #webdev (2/2)

This is cool. videojs.org/blog/videojs... Video.js (which has existed for 15 years) is getting a remake. The beta looks slick and gets me excited for pushing video to the web again. :-) #webdev #javascript #video #frontend

Thanks @sarajw@front-end.social for the great article on getting color-scheme set up to support dark mode on https://katerberg.net For anyone else that felt like dark mode was too annoying to figure out, check out the amazingly simple set up (and the PR just merged on my site if you want a dead-simple example commit) https://www.htmhell.dev/adventcalendar/2022/19/ #WebDev
