iOS 27 Beta 5. Item description can now describe anything in voiceover focus. Live recognition Scene mode now describes continuously with context, so it just says what's changed instead of reading everything over and over again. Now that's magical! Imagine having that in a pair of glasses, either on-device or running on a connected iPhone. #accessibility #blind #iOS

Recently I learned about TouchMapper: Create tactile maps easily for any address. They use #OpenStreetMap to create printable 3D models of an area, for people with no/bad vision to literally get a feel for the place. While I can see some #Accessibility benefits to this, more generally it seems like a #Design approach to treat 👤 humans as 📦️ cargo. Question for #3dPrinter , #Accessibility , and #Bicycle folks out there... I am trying to figure out an adaptation for my exercise bike to allow me to ride it while I have a hand injury that makes it impossible to put pressure on the top of my palm to ride. I have a Bowflex C6 that I can't adjust the handles on. I am looking for the right words to find an attachment for the handlebars, or an example of a print for something that would let me use my wrist/bottom of palm for any type of bike I could use as a starting point to print something. My searches have netted some palm rests for street bikes I might be able to modify, but I am curious for other ideas too.

Let me say this: now that Matt Mullenweg has explicitly declared he doesn't really care about WordPress accessibility, I'm exploring alternatives. I have PureBlog and Eleventy currently in hand; Ghost is potent but its accessibility is very, very poor. My strong fear on switching to another platform, however, is one: there are less and less skilled people on CSS code. Most are used to point-and-click palettes, and I could code but due to my blindness I have no feedbacks on how my pages appear so I have a need for sighted assistance to customize CSS. Well y'all, Linux stuff is happening fast. Cthulhu is a fork of Orca with like lots of stuff. Wine runs Windows programs on Linux.

If Cthulhu is running, the Wine Accessibility plugin is enabled, and the helper package is installed, you should only need to launch the Wine or Proton program normally.

Cthulhu will automatically:

Detect the active Wine/Proton prefix.
Start the helper inside that prefix.
Read supported standard Windows controls.
Accept speech requests from programs using NVDA Controller or Tolk.

It won’t automatically make custom-drawn or DirectX game interfaces accessible. Those need built-in self-voicing through NVDA Controller/Tolk or future game-specific support. There might also be a short delay of up to roughly two seconds while Cthulhu discovers a newly started Wine process.

You shouldn't need a dedicated app to access a bank account, you should only need a good web browser. Any bank that doesn't have a webpage for this is already knee deep in some serious #accessibility issues: Too poor for a phone? no banking. Can't see? Obfuscated banking app breaks screen reader. Old or unsupported OS? Tough luck. This artificial exclusion should be illegal.

If you use this font to protect your text from AI, it also blocks *me, a human* because I use a screen reader. I did try the demo. If you want me to remove your RSS feed, this is the best font to prevent blind people from reading your blog/words. Random question: for folks using screen readers, how does the "degree" symbol work? Specifically: ° I'm trying to be better about alt text. Does it work better to say "100 degrees Fahrenheit", or does "100 °F" present the same way? Is "100 deg F" an acceptable abbreviation? I welcome input here, especially from folks that use screen readers daily. Again, just trying to be better where I can. #screenreader #ui #accessibility #question #advice
