iOS 27 Beta 5. Item description can now describe anything in voiceover focus. Live recognition Scene mode now describes continuously with context, so it just says what's changed instead of reading everything over and over again. Now that's magical! Imagine having that in a pair of glasses, either on-device or running on a connected iPhone. #accessibility #blind #iOS

Let me say this: now that Matt Mullenweg has explicitly declared he doesn't really care about WordPress accessibility, I'm exploring alternatives. I have PureBlog and Eleventy currently in hand; Ghost is potent but its accessibility is very, very poor. My strong fear on switching to another platform, however, is one: there are less and less skilled people on CSS code. Most are used to point-and-click palettes, and I could code but due to my blindness I have no feedbacks on how my pages appear so I have a need for sighted assistance to customize CSS. Introducing Audio Showdown, a new game that @ChanceyFleet@mas.to and I built! She built the original web version after being inspired by the Power Showdown table at the #NFB Jernigan Institute, and I ported it over to #iOS to take advantage of VoiceOver's Direct Touch feature. This is audio-based air hockey or Showdown, where you track the location of the puck using customizable sound cues. Listen for the puck location and movement, then use your finger as the paddle. Use "Where the duck is the puck?" mode to hear how the sounds change in different parts of the table. I even built in little features like a Board Ball, a penalty for hitting the puck too hard in Showdown mode. Well y'all, Linux stuff is happening fast. Cthulhu is a fork of Orca with like lots of stuff. Wine runs Windows programs on Linux.

If Cthulhu is running, the Wine Accessibility plugin is enabled, and the helper package is installed, you should only need to launch the Wine or Proton program normally.

Cthulhu will automatically:

Detect the active Wine/Proton prefix.
Start the helper inside that prefix.
Read supported standard Windows controls.
Accept speech requests from programs using NVDA Controller or Tolk.

It won’t automatically make custom-drawn or DirectX game interfaces accessible. Those need built-in self-voicing through NVDA Controller/Tolk or future game-specific support. There might also be a short delay of up to roughly two seconds while Cthulhu discovers a newly started Wine process.

I know #3DPrinting folks will probably dog me for using or even thinking about buying Bambu because its not open source, but I had a Q1Pro for ages and it sucked to use, and ultimately broke because we couldn't figure out how to use it without sight, at least with Bambu, some of the barriers are broken. If open-source people really want to come at me for using Bambu, than make a printer that is 100% accessible to the #Blind and then we'll talk.

Converting the inaccessible, working around the broken, doing in five steps what colleagues do in one. AI cuts that job's hours dramatically. @briankrebs@infosec.exchange My friend, lessons don't necessarily *take*. After five *years* of weekly piano lessons, I cannot play piano. I can touch type, though. Both qwerty and ten-key. So it's obviously a musical deficit rather than lack of dexterity. The typing and piano lessons overlapped — I started piano in third grade and typing in fifth grade (on a manual typewriter, because I'm a #boomer and legally #blind).

with the help of claude, I put together an NVDA Addon for enhancing the audio ducking with two new modes. Duck inactive applications lowers the audio of every application that is not currently focused, so the app you are working in stays at full volume. Duck the active application lowers the audio of the application that is currently focused, leaving background audio (for example, music) at full volume. As focus moves between applications, the add-on continually updates which audio sessions are lowered, and it restores every application's original volume when you leave the mode or disable ducking. I do love my Meta glasses but they are frustrating when they don’t work. Since the last iOS update, when I ask the glasses to make a call or send a message, they say, “Open the Meta AI app to reconnect. If it is already open, try restarting it”. I’ve done more than that. I even deleted and reinstalled the Meta AI app and reconnected my glasses but they still won’t make calls or send messages. Every other function works as it should, and they’ll read incoming messages no problem. Wondering if anyone else has been experiencing this. I’m hoping for an app update because I don’t know what else I can try. #Technology #BlindAdventures #Blind

Ah, screw that, let's just freeze the entire password manager and force you to restart the app even after disabling the screen reader. Oh and the 2FA code of that item?
