RE: https://mastodon.social/@fsfe/116754296070322005 We submitted our position to the @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu's public consultation on #DMA #AI #interoperability in #Android. Among other points, we highlighted that access to interoperability should not be tied to *any kind* of verification scheme. No registration, nor authorisation, nor any contractual relationships with #Google must be a prerequisite to access features in Android. @keepandroidopen@techhub.social You can read more in our news item or in the submission itself 👇

Google just called its new AI Search the "biggest upgrade in 25 years" but really, it's killing the open web.  😡 The open web was built by millions of people sharing knowledge freely → Now, Google who owns the monopoly on Search is ruining it.  We wrote about what's really happening, and what you can do about it 👉 https://tuta.com/blog/why-google-ai-search-is-bad #AI #AISearch #Google

I'm leaving #Google: https://www.mayrhofer.eu.org/post/leaving-google/ While I believe that I have been able to do some good with my continuing (part-time) engagement in the Android security and privacy team since returning to Austria a couple of years ago, the deal with the US #DoW is completely misaligned with my personal ethical principles. I will, therefore, no longer be able to act as a contact point to Google-internal teams and discussions, but will continue our research on private digital identity, end-to-end secure communication and storage, network privacy, (embedded/mobile) operating system security, supply chain transparency, etc. from a purely academic point of view. Android - and in particular AOSP - will remain a research interest, so please feel free to reach out on any of those topics for potential collaborations or discussions on the academic side.

WARNING: Apple MacOS 27 is reportedly loaded with massive, non-disableable Google Gemini AI SLOP Presumably Apple is paying Google a fortune for access to their misinformation SLOP machine Gemini AI, and Apple wants to make sure you can't opt-out. That's how the billionaire Big Tech CEOs operate. They stuff this garbage DOWN YOUR THROAT like they own you. DISGUSTING. Reports so far -- subject to change as I learn more -- are that unlike in previous versions of macOS there is no simple way to disable "Apple Stupidity" -- oops, I meant "Apple Intelligence" which is wedded at the hip to Siri. Also, reports are that the AI crap alone is taking 10s of gigabytes of space and comes right back when deleted. If you don't have a big storage Mac, this is going to hurt. Does Apple care? OF COURSE NOT. Like Google, it's all about keeping their billionaire CEOs living the lifestyle to which they've become accustomed and we could never dream of. You might let Apple know how you feel about this, for whatever good it does. If I learn more that changes any of this, I'll let you know. L #google #apple #gemini #ai

Apple's partnership with Google AI: Not a single feature people actually need Looking over Apple's announcement of their new AI features in league with Google, I can't find a single feature that anybody would actually need. It's all a pile of slop, for which beautiful rural and other communities are being destroyed to build those grotesque, polluting data centers. The entire LLM AI experience as perpetrated by the AI firms and their minions is without a doubt the most enormous example of corporate technology abuse against humanity in the history of technology. #apple #google #ai

To prevent Google from using your private data (such as emails, documents, and web activity) to train AI models, you need to turn off specific Smart Features and Activity Tracking in your Google Account. #google #privacy #ai

The most dangerous change in Google’s privacy policies newly announced

This is the operative text that is most alarming. It means that not only your search history, but IMAGES AND OTHER MEDIA that gets uploaded to #Google as part of Search will be saved AND USED TO TRAIN GOOGLE #AI unless you have explicitly turned off these history settings. This is a BIG deal. -L

Google will now save your media to your Search Services History, applying robust privacy and security protections. Like your Search Services History, your saved media is also used to develop and improve Google services and technologies, including AI models and safety measures. With this transition, if your Web & App Activity setting is currently turned on, this new Save Media subsetting will also be turned on along with your Search Services History.
