This week we decided to stop the weekly vouchers provided to families and the music classes, which obviously caused a lot of frustration amongst the families. We urge you to help us with donations and fundraisers to care for the patients and the vulnerable families in our camps!
[...] Our encampments serve some of the most vulnerable families: those with war injuries or chronic diseases, adults with special needs and mobility issues, children with physical or mental disabilities, high risk perinatal and neonatal females, or families with extreme trauma or are in phychological distress. With this narrowed criteria, we are able to serve the most critical population with tailored services and facilities [...] In addition, our camp takes a burden off the over-stressed hospital system as we also take referrals from medical NGOs, [...]"

"The inititaive was originally formed to secure, purchase, and distribute tents in Southern Gaza but in January 2026, the campaign was rebranded to "Shelter, Goods & Activities" to cover not only tents but also other non-food items and activities provided like barber days and workshops.
The vast majority of Gaza Strip has been bombed and destroyed which has lead to the death of over 41,000 people (including 16,500 children) and the displacement of around 2 million people.
We have been securing tents for 1.5 years and managed, through your donations, to purchase 1,500+ units and deliver them to families in need. We work with an incredible team on the ground to source, purchase, store, and distribute to families, FOR FREE, many of whom are currently without any type of shelter."

#GAZA, 1er mai 2026 – Des plaies de rats, de souris et d’insectes ont essaimé des camps de déplacés à Gaza ces dernières semaines à mesure que les températures augmentent, ce qui augmente les risques pour la santé d’environ 1,4 million de personnes vivant dans des sites de déplacement surpeuplés, a déclaré Save the Children.
Les rongeurs mâchent des tentes et contaminent la nourriture alors qu'il y a peu d'installations de stockage sécurisées. Les cas risquent de s'aggraver à mesure que les températures continuent d'augmenter.
Save the Children a parlé avec des familles qui ont trop peur de dormir la nuit, craignant que leurs enfants ne soient mordus par des rats.
Le blocus militaire israélien de l’aide et des biens commerciaux entrant à Gaza a laissé les familles incapables d’accéder aux pesticides pour contrôler l’infestation. Les rares fois où ces articles sont sur le marché, les prix sont inabordables. En conséquence, les familles ont recours à des méthodes souvent inefficaces, y compris essayer d'attraper les animaux à l'aide de bâtons ou de pièges adhésifs de base.
Les systèmes de soins de santé, d’eau et d’assainissement de Gaza ont été décimés par plus de deux ans de guerre, transformant les sites de déplacés surpeuplés en lieux de reproduction pour les maladies, entourés de tas de gravats et d’ordures.
Le nombre croissant de rongeurs et de ravageurs est alimenté par l'accumulation de déchets qui a conduit à la propagation de maladies comme la gale, la pneumonie et la diarrhée. Les enfants, en particulier les nourrissons de moins de cinq ans et ceux qui sont affaiblis par la malnutrition, sont plus sensibles à de telles maladies.

« Je vois régulièrement des rats, des ordures et des eaux usées tout autour de moi. Je crains que la santé de ma fille ne vive dans ces conditions. Ce n'est pas un moyen de vivre une vie digne. Au fur et à mesure que le temps se réchauffe, nous craignons que cette question ne fasse que s’aggraver et se terrifier et faire de notre maison un terreau fertile pour les rats, les ravageurs et les maladies. Ça me brise le cœur de voir des tentes de fortune tapisser tout mon chemin de travail. Ces abris sont mis en place au hasard sur des infrastructures endommagées, laissant les gens constamment exposés aux risques d'eaux usées, d'animaux et de rongeurs.
« Les systèmes de santé et d’assainissement à Gaza sont détruits. Les eaux usées brutes traversent les rues lorsqu'il pleut et sont régulièrement pompées dans la mer. J’ai du mal à trouver de l’eau et les gens n’ont pas d’autre choix que de pêcher et de nager dans la mer ce qu'il les met en danger. »
Save the Children appelle à un accès humanitaire ininterrompu en tout temps et veille à ce que les besoins humanitaires soient satisfaits. Israël, en tant que puissance occupante, a l'obligation supplémentaire de veiller à ce que les besoins humanitaires de la population occupée soient satisfaits. Le "plan à ses dispositions humanitaires. Israël doit de toute urgence lever le siège et veiller à ce que tous les points de passage frontaliers soient ouverts et pleinement opérationnels, que les restrictions d’aide soient levées et que les services reprennent afin que les maisons, les écoles, les systèmes d’eau et d’assainissement et les vies puissent enfin être reconstruits.

I’m an elderly lefty, living in South West England who’s looking for a nice place in the fediverse where I can share/ learn/ politely disagree etc with others & (occasionally) vent my frustrations & concerns about the parlous state of the world that my grandkids are growing up in! When I’m not “doom scrolling” I enjoy gardening, bird watching, bread baking & being the best granddad I can be.

Both the United States and Israel were founded and exist on land taken during ongoing genocides. Settler colonialism drives these genocides, and both nations share an ideology that justifies the theft and rationalizes the killing.
