Personal rant, disjointed thoughts that probably should stay inside of my head:

Lately, I've been thinking a lot about how I'm denying myself my life's purpose by not working as an astronomer and just how much it makes me miserable on a daily basis.

This is mostly because of personal reason. I cannot move to new place to work at some university and getting a full remote postdoc/assistant position is just plainly unrealistic.
I could do science in my free time (that is in a low supply for months now) but will it be the same? Can I feel satisfied with it in a long run...

Do I stay at my current datascience job that doesn't really engage me and there is a chance that it's consequences in a long run might be at odds with my personal morals, but on the other hand it allows me to pay my rent and buy food . Also sooner rather than later I will be forced to use LLM's (but this is really true for all of the IT jobs).

Looking at current IT job market and it's requirements I am currently unemployable and lack a lot of skills and experience. And there is no guarantee that I will feel better in other position.

Or do I pivot to something completely different, start from the bottom end risking unemployment/financial hardships/further dissatisfaction of my life. I don't really have financial cushion to experiment.

Having your life-long passion being your job is great until you lose it and find yourself without purpose, then there comes mourning after what once was.

For the last month or so I've been learning javascript bc I have to make some dashboard with real time data plotting for work.
I'm really not enjoying working with it, especially that it's loosely typed and often doesn't shout at me when something's wrong

But one thing that I really like for some reason is an arrow function

( ) => { }

it's simple, useful and for me somehow really aesthetically pleasing. It scratches my brain.

Crows have a concept of number 0.

Well yeah, every person who regularly feeds corvids and it happens once that they go out without peanuts knows that.

After 10 years of depression and anxiety treatment, which granted was real thanks to my childhood trauma™, multiple drug changes with no major improvement except for keeping me alive. My psychiatrist began diagnosing me for ADHD and gave me methylphenidate. The silence in my head after just the first dose was shocking, I could finally focus on my work, and I'm less exhausted later in the evening.

It's a weird thing being diagnosed for ADHD at 36yo, but I'm told that my depression and anxiety simply masked those things. It also helped that most of my adult life I was doing science, which is my passion and hiperfocus. But because I'm after succesfull therapy and work on things that don't stimulate me mentally, the symptoms became overwhelming to the point that I was falling behind everything.

Now I'm sitting here and keep going back to my past, and many things start making so much sense.

The funniest thing in all of this is that a couple of years ago, I was the first person who noticed ADHD symptoms in my girlfriend, but I didn't notice them in me .
