A couple of hours at the allotment, watered stuff, plucked some weeds, dug the drain channel and while at it, spotted a frog! Also a new strawberries crop seems to be growing... And the grape isn't ready, perhaps in October. Left the track camera over a couple of days, at the allotment, had some 300 shots, most of them pointless, vegetation agitated by wind, but got a few bird shots including this crow taking off. #photography #crows #allotment #pond #enviroment #grape #frog #strawberries

For all the bird lovers, the crows have landbacked my roof and regularly host parties in the morning! It's funny to hear the pitter-patter of the crows walking around. A council of crows convened on the tree in the neighbor's yard. From the remaining branches of a tree, they had a lively discussion A contractor had pruned many of the majestic branches and left these branches of the tree in a pile A crow spoke up, declaring what has happened here was no accident The other crows continued to echo this call for action This tree has weathered great storms of our many generations This tree has protected and provided us with many fruits The branches removed can never been replaced In these uncertain times What happened to this tree shall be remembered A garrison of mosquitoes has been activated And some are already on patrol We must remain vigilant and protect those who have protected us #MicroFiction #crows #trees #ecology (based on a true story within the last hour)

Unsettled night, so up late. As soon as I open the front door (a glass storm door still in place) there was a *lot* of cawing. The #crows are a bit more relaxed around me, in addition to training me to feed them anytime I get up in the morning, but still won't stay while I toss the peanuts at the end of the drive. Unfortunately 2 squirrels have also figured this out. Six #crows this morning, including the original Bold and a larger one I'm calling Patch as I can see something on its chest that is lighter. Will see if he's just moulting. So far the neighbors haven't complained. 😬 Third year, lots more friends. I'm so glad to see them every morning. #corvids

Cool crow* thing that happened the other day, and which I just remembered: So the backstory is that sometimes the crows (ravens) like to nick off with our chooks' eggs, and honestly I'm OK with it because I love how cheeky and clever they are, and they don't take many eggs. The other thing you should know is that our chooks are free-range-ish in a fenced off section of the garden, which (for now) is secure around the edge but open to the sky. It's a few weeks until the chooks will start laying but the crows live around our area and I often will say hello to them when we're out walking. And then the other day, we were walking up the street towards our house and I saw a bird gliding high up above and I thought it was a pelican, but then I saw the silhouette of the head and realised it was a hawk! And then! a crow/raven appears from the right, and not only starts harassing the hawk, but also caw-caw-caaawing to its family members, and they are on the job straight away, and within seconds, the hawk has left the vicinity of our chooks and the crows see it off -- we could almost hear them saying, 'And stay out!' I'm thinking that the crows were protecting our chooks -- not because they care about the chooks themselves, so much as they care about the eggs the chooks will start laying soon! Crows. So great :) *apparently the ones around here are ravens, but they seem to not care that I call them crows #crows #ravens #birds #ThingsILove

The Crows are very happy that now that the Bluebirds left their box, the pool has opened again. Splashing joyfully! They have two youngsters. This is mother with one of them, father sticks close to the other. #birds #crows

The crow on your fence knows your face. She's known it for years. She told her family about you. They've never met you. They also know your face now. The grudge was inherited. University of Washington researchers wore masks while trapping crows. Years later, crows who had never been trapped — young birds born after the study — would scold and dive-bomb anyone wearing that specific mask.
