If you know an Irishman who visited France for two weeks in July and who saved my life at the Piscine du Grand Parc, get us in touch. He'll remember as much as I do. They visited all the swimming pools in Bordeaux. Please boost and see if anyone is on Mastodon who can help. #Irish #Ireland

Hiberno-English word/phrase of the day: Clip o' the reel (also: kip of the reel) This idiom describes an activity that would occasion disturbance and craic. "The same old clip o' the reel when the girls came home from the dance." The phrase comes directly from traditional Irish music and dance culture. A "reel" is a fast-paced, high-energy traditional dance in 4/4 time. Thus calling something a "clip o' the reel" means it has that same energetic and lively rhythm. #ireland #slang #language

Nua-#CelticSoulJourney in #Ireland: Lough Erne has two origin stories (here’s the link to the first: https://hear-me.social/@NeuKelte/114552148881782730) The second story concerns Érne, who was ‘chieftainess of the girls of Cruachan and keeper of [Queen] Medb's combs and caskets’. It seems that a warrior named Olc Ai came from the #Otherworld via the cave of Oweynaghat to seek revenge after Amorgen the Blackhaired slept with the fairy-woman Findchoem. He didn’t come to do battle with Amorgen, though, oh no. Instead, he took his fury out on the innocent women of Cruachan. It is said that Olc Ai shook his great beard at the girls and gnashed his teeth so fearfully, that Érne and her women were driven insane with terror and fled. They did not slow down upon reaching the lake, but waded in, desperate to escape their tormentor, and so were all drowned. Nua-#CelticSoulJourney in #Ireland: When Becfhola attempted an assignation to the hero Crimthann, the queen of Tara instead met Flann ua Fedach and spent an enchanted night with him on an island in Lough Erne. When she returned to Tara, it was as if no time had passed, for she was living in the #Otherworld in #fairy time with Flann, who soon came to take her away. Source: P. Rocky landscapes of Ireland. The 14-day holiday on the south-west coast of Ireland is drawing to a close. Although taking photos wasn’t the main focus here, I often had my camera with me on my walks. It’s been a while since I’ve done a bit of landscape photography. #landscapephotography #ireland

Hiberno-English word/phrase of the day: Clash of the Ash This is a phrase used to signify, romantically, the game of hurling: hurleys are traditionally made from the wood of the ash tree. The tree is supposed to be 30 years old, and the wood taken from where the roots spread, so that the grain of the wood will not go with the length of the stick, making it liable to split. #ireland #slang #language

Hiberno-English word/phrase of the day: Circling Shannon This is a euphemism for being unwell, extremely drunk, and incapable of action, arising from an incident at Shannon Airport in 1994 when the Russian President Boris Yeltsin was unable to leave the plane, while the Irish Taoiseach Albert Reynolds waited. #ireland #slang #language

#Ireland does not deserve this: neither his presence nor the security bill it imposes on the country’s taxpayers. It’s also going to cause a big problem for accommodation and others attending. 🍊💩 #trump #golf Donald Trump likely to travel to Doonbeg for Irish Open https://www.rte.ie/news/politics/2026/0802/1586172-donald-trump-likely-to-travel-to-doonbeg-for-irish-open/
