This stone circle is Callanish Stones, a 5,000-year-old prehistoric monument on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebridies in Scotland. It was used for 2,000 years. Patrick Ashmore, who excavated there in the early 1980 says that every 18.6 years, the moon skims especially low. #StandingStoneSunday

Good morning. ☺️ This is a #silentsunday, #stonecircle & #standingstonesunday from a while ago. This is the Druid's Circle or Maen Hirion, & is located above the village of #Penmaenmawr. Driving up a dangerously narrow lane to the carpark is scary but the views are definitely worth it. Some say that this may be the remains of a long lost Bronze Age landscape known linked to Dinas Affaraon. An ancient city that Ceridwen may have visited & seek the wisdom & magic of nature. A quiet place. ☺️

Drumtroddan Standing Stones in Galloway. One of the first sites to be donated into state care following the 1882 Ancient Monuments Act, by Herbert Maxwell. A stone fell a few years ago, leaving just a single one remaining. Historic Environment Scotland have decided against restoring the fallen stone, declaring the money better spent elsewhere. This isn't state care, it is managed decline. What would Herbert Maxwell think now? #StandingStoneSunday #Scotland

#StandingStoneSunday Earlier today I visited Hellens Manor in the village of Much Marcle, Herefordshire, parts of which may date back to King Harold II. In the grounds at the end of a long meadow is a modern stone circle (~10 years old) with each stone inscribed with a quotation.
