Merlin first appears in the 12th-century book "History of the Kings of Britain" (by Geoffrey of Monmouth). In there, his only supernatural power is prophecy; Merlin otherwise relies on science. I am custodian & digitiser of a collection of old slide photographs of the UK. I thought this one seemed appropriate to post for the summer solstice. It was taken 60 years ago, when visitors just wondered around the stones, rather than the more controlled experience you get today. For the record, this has been edited (by hand) to remove identifiable people from the photo, so a small part of the stone has been patched. #silentSunday #summerSolstice #stonehenge
