May 4, 1970. Four students killed at Kent State. May 4, 1886. Haymarket. May 4, 1626. Peter Minuit "purchased" Manhattan — the founding fraud. The dead are watching, and they are not impressed. We remember not as ceremony but as muscle memory. The body knows the sound of a federal letter the way a deer knows a footstep. https://twp.ai/9OV23i #History #KentState #Haymarket #May4 #Memory #Protest #StudentMovement #NeverForget #AmericanHistory #lgbtqia #trans

The gatehouse of Crossraguel Abbey, near Maybole in Ayrshire. Founded in the 13th century by Duncan, 1st Earl of Carrick. It is halfway between Paisley and Whithorn on the pilgrims' trail to the shrine of St Ninian. #blackandwhitephotography #Scotland #Ayrshire #History

Glasserton Church, near Whithorn in the Machars of Galloway. The wee bell-cot is said to have been taken from Kirkmaiden Church, when the parishes merged in the 17th C. #blackandwhitephotography #Scotland #Galloway #SouthernScotland #History

Hi #fediverse I need your help!

I develop #PastPuzzle a daily ad-free #history game. I know it can be really successful, because already over 10,000 people play it each day and share moments of learning and fun.

With a limited budget, word of mouth is everything. If this sounds like something you or someone you know would enjoy, please share this post or the game.

Everybody can play it in the browser or download the app for iOS or Android. Link to the game is below.🔽

Thanks

  • Tom

Yemen introduced the world to coffee. Now, its coffeehouse culture is booming in the US https://apnews.com/article/yemen-coffee-cafes-taste-spices-war-72b5d2fdec7375cf476a6881810d8ce6?utm_source=flipboard&utm_content=Econopass%2Fmagazine%2FFLIPBOARD+EXCHANGE+FEED+%F0%9F%97%9E%EF%B8%8F SUNNYVALE, California (AP) — Hundreds of years ago, Yemen helped introduce the world to coffee. Lately, the mountainous, war-ravaged country that borders Saudi Arabia and Oman is exporting something else: its coffee culture. Yemeni coffeehouses are opening at a rapid pace across the U.S. The number … #food #coffee #yemen #history

BLOG POST: How I wrote 'The Presence Chamber', the sixth story in my new collection of weird stories. It includes an admission that I thought Andy Partridge might have invented Nonsuch Palace as one of his clever little bits. https://precastreinforced.co.uk/2026/05/03/6-the-presence-chamber-thin-places-in-hard-concrete-story-by-story/ #history #horror

#mecklenburgvorpommern #kloster #monastery #geschichte #history #mittelalter #medieval #fotografie #photography #Photographie #foto #architektur #architecture #architecturephotography #travel #travelphotography #deutschland #germany

@_jimnelson_@mastodon.social Many years ago, the Noe Valley Voice ran a piece on how the numbered streets in Noe used to have names, replaced with numbers in the 1800s if I recall correctly. For example, Navy Street was renamed 26th Street, which makes the fuss over Army's street renaming sound rather silly to me. Expect it to come up again now that Cesar Chavez has been disgraced in the public eye. #SanFrancisco #Map #Maps #StreetNames #History

Twister, the classic American game that was marketed as “the game that ties you up in knots,” debuted in 1966. But it didn’t get off to a very auspicious start. Thought to be too risque, some critics called it “sex in a box.” It eventually went on to become universally loved. What changed? TV host Johnny Carson and famed actress Eva Gabor played it on “The Tonight Show," and the rest is history. Frida painted 143 works from a bed she couldn't leave. Tennessee Williams wrote 30 plays while gay in the South. Saeed Jones won the Kirkus Prize. They made beauty while the world told them not to. The thread doesn't break; it changes hands. From Stonewall to the Equality Act passing the House in 2025, we inherit the practice. Keep going. The work outlives the noise. #FridaKahlo #TennesseeWilliams #QueerHistory #Resilience #Art #Literature #EqualityAct #History https://twp.ai/9OUqJk
