A slight detour for me today. One of the problems with living in Scotland is that the sky doesn't get fully dark during the summer. Last night was our first "proper" dark since May, so the telescope came out to play. I concentrated on one area for about 45 minutes, knowing the Milky Way was in that part of the sky but not expecting to get very much from it. Oh boy, was I wrong! Falls sich wer unsicher ist, wie wohl die Einstellungen seiner Kamera sein müssten (ungefähr), um die partielle Sonnenfinsternis zu fotografieren, verweise ich auf diese Webseite: http://xjubier.free.fr/en/site_pages/SolarEclipseExposure.html Achtet oben in den Auswahlfeldern (Altitude) auch darauf, wie niedrig bzw. hoch die Sonne zu dem Zeitpunkt steht. So könnt ihr euch einen Ablaufplan erstellen und diesen in euren Auslöser eintragen und auch welchen Sonnenfilter ihr benutzt (ND4 oder 5). Natürlich empfehle ich, das heute oder morgen vorab zu simulieren. #Astronomie #Astrophotography #SolarEclipse

Cześć, po dość długim okresie tylko przęgladania nadszedł czas na #introduction. Kończę właśnie pierwszy rok doktoratu gdzie zajmuję się laserową modyfikacją nanokompozytów z myślą o wytwarzaniu struktur dyfrakcyjnych #nanophotonics. Robiłem trochę #astrophotography ale z braku warunków obecnie jest to na wstrzymaniu. Kocham góry, jeździć na rowerze, od jakiegoś czasu staram się nauczyć grać na ocarinie oraz gram w papierowe rpg, głównie #warhammerfantasy. Nie wiem czy i co dokładnie, będę tu postować, ale zapewne jakieś własne przemyślenia i drobnostki.

I got myself a sheet of Sun-safe filter material, and McGuyvered a pop-up filter for my lens. The first attempt sort of worked, but I didn't get the filter 100% straight. Luckily I have more material. But this is sort of my first attempt, and a few sunspots are clearly visible on the right of the image. The Large Magellanic Cloud

Explanation: Have you ever seen another galaxy with your own eyes? The featured image shows the Large Magellanic Cloud (or LMC), one of the closest neighbors of our Milky Way. If you are anywhere south of latitude 20° N (but the further south, the better), you can see it with the naked eye if you go to a dark sky location, away from big cities and light polution. It is a dwarf irregular galaxy about 163,000 light-years away, and a member of our Local Group of galaxies. Despite being small, with a total mass approximately equivalent to 10% - 20% of the mass of the Milky Way, the LMC is very actively forming stars. This is likely due to the gravitational push and pull of tides caused by the Milky Way on the LMC. Barnards Loop over Twin Volcanoes

Explanation: What's connecting these two volcanoes? In ancient folklore, the two volcanoes, Parinacota (left) and Pomerape (right), are connected by representing a mythical prince and princess who engaged in a forbidden romance. Beneath the ground, the two peaks are not known to be connected by a common pool of hot magma, and neither volcano has erupted in the past 1000 years. Above the ground, there is usually nothing in the sky that connects them -- except if you use careful timing and look from a specific location. The featured well-planned image was captured from Bolivia in mid-April with a series of camera exposures taken on the same day and from the same location. Then, Barnard's Loop appeared to connect the volcanic peaks. My god, it's full of stars. M24, the Small Sagittarius Star Cloud, and neighbouring bits and pieces. Just over 4 hours 10 minutes of total exposure time over the last two nights with the little Seestar S30 Pro and its UV/IR cut filter. Not bad considered how irritatingly bright the Moon was being at the time. Processed in Siril with SyQon and VeraLux scripts. I should have been using the light pollution filter under conditions like that, but I've already done all the big HII regions that are conveniently placed at this time of year so I've been trying to do stars and dust despite the Moon. #Astrophotography #Seestar #SeestarS30Pro #Siril #VeraLux #SyQon #ThirtyMilliMetreTelescope #TMMT

NGC 6992 - Eastern Veil nebula Another part of the massive Cygnus loop, a 20,000 year old remnant of a supernova that lies about 1500 light years away in the constellation Cygnus. This halo of gas and dust emits light because it is electrically charged (ionised) by the resulting radiation from the supernova. Seestar S50, processed in Siril and GIMP. The Cygnus Wall in SHO and RGB stars.

This was my big project for the summer that I teased a few weeks ago. I’ve been wanting to make a print-worthy image of the Cygnus Wall for a while now, and I think I’ve done it. I was originally shooting for 50+ hours of data, but this region is so bright that I was good with just under 40 hours.

SHO, for the uninitiated:

  • Red = sulfur

  • Green = hydrogen

  • Blue = oxygen
