Anybody who enjoys Murderbot and who thought that the cloak in the Dr Strange movie was far more interesting and a better character than Dr Strange might well be interested in a book I'm reading at the moment.
I read a review of Project Hail Mary on Mastodon, and I enjoyed the writing. Lo! The writer said if you enjoyed my writing, please consider my brand new book - The Cloak And Its Wizard.
Well, I thought, this sounds like great fun. And it really is!
So take a look at @rr4idic@mastodon.online - this is Dr. Rachel Reddick writing as R.Z. Nicolet and see if you enjoy.
The cloak is a very interesting take of an artificial person - no voice, no hands, but full of personality and fun. The wizard is a great character who it would be an honour to know in real life, and the world with its public superheros and secret magic is a great take on this genre.
Also I'm a sucker for cool monsters. I want to draw a Cassandra Wyrm. Such a cool name too.
Half way through and recommending! I'll revisit with some final thoughts once I'm done. I should be weeding but this book has got me good and proper so I'm having to force myself away.

Cold and crisp, and long winter solstice time nights have made for great observation times here in #PerthWesternAustralia . So now that it's come over all cloudy and rainy it's time to do some processing.
I have been catching a couple of snippets of things at the end of a longer project, and this is one of them. The Lagoon Nebula says hi!

I had a good 3 hours to draw this one, so the more relaxed pace shows I think. Back to the Kakimori nib, because, guess what, @rdm@aus.social bought some ink from Van Diemen's Ink moving sale, which I told him not to do, but he did anyway. Naughty fellow isn't he?
It arrived today and this was the one he wanted me to try out.

Mermay the fourth for 2026.
This was drawn in various cafes and bars today, between bus trips. I had one pen with me, a Kaweco sport that I thought was loaded with some standard black ink. But it's very shiny and might have some chameleonic properties. So maybe it's one of the Diamines, and if I look at last year's mermay or artober I might be able to work out what it is.
The pen was a bit clogged and it's been poor light all the way, and I had the wrong glasses. But it turned out okay, I think.
Drawing without a net means I'm drawing without pencil, freehand straight ink to paper.

@SFFMagazineCovers@zirk.us I know my perytons from my manticores from my opinicuses and I am not getting a Classical composite monster from this wyvern bat monkey. At first I thought it was a bit Lovecrafty but it didn't quite fit the bill.
There's a lot of unused space in that closet. They could store documents there for the helpful guy.

Well, I put the telescope out last night and targeted the Keyhole Nebula. Now, I don't know about you but this looks like Great A'Tuin, Sir Terry's marvelous astrochelonian, is checking on a star cluster nest of eggs.
May Sir Terry rest in peace and know that he's loved. I met him a few times, a wonderful soul he lit up a room like a gentle nebula himself!
