I'm not watching tonight's #Monsterdon because I've seen this one a lot. We watched it for a lockdown era movie night at my lockdown era gig, distributed through a self hosted Rabbit clone (the name of which I have forgotten), while sharing fancy mocktails that the company mailed us. There were like 10 or 15 people in the groupchat while we watched, and I was playing it on a projector while half a dozen other people watched along at the cafe. One of my best lockdown memories. Anyway, it's a perfect movie for monsterdon, and I hope y'all love it.

#monsterdon as a quasi-alert, I recently found a 1927 version of the German sci-fi monster/victim Alraune, which like Frankenstein, keeps getting remade with new twists on the monsterness of the monster. I'm told there's an earlier film, but I also wonder if there are any later than the 1952 'Unnatural'

It's probably on the more competent end of the spectrum among movies we've done, but it'd be far from unprecedented, and I do think there are a fair number of mock-worthy elements (even discounting the changes in cinematic convention between then and now)

Night of the Living Dead is a pretty good movie for its time. But it's also giving strong #Monsterdon vibes - like, I'm pretty sure I could have checked off most of a Monsterdon bingo card with horror movie tropes that seem dated or cheesy in the current era of movie viewing. (Not a knock on the movie, just a reflection on how our expectations change over time) #MovieClub

@willowwren@hcommons.social @Taweret@timeloop.cafe I did, with the caveat that it is a little old-fashioned (I mean, 1920 production after all) and that a hundred years later you may be familiar with the plot twist. But there's an over-the-top comedic character, a decently spooky setting, and the bus load of junior high school students who were in the audience too had a blast. #Monsterdon
