@evan @QasimRashid This is so much worse in California due to the 1970s Prop 13, which was SUPPOSED to keep old people from losing their homes to gentrification. But of course the right wing made sure it applied to ALL properties private and commercial instead of just primary residence, so it's become quite a vector for wealthy parasites to get a free ride on the sweat of the working classes, ensuring that most people can't afford rent, let alone to buy.

You know, now that I'm thinking about it, HBO was really stupid to pick up Harry Potter.
They could likely have got Worst Witch license much cheaper, and enough people would have seen the trailer and thought 'it's a HP knockoff' to get viewership and buzz with increasing buzz when people learn WW is the original and not attached to a bigot.
They'd have raked in the cash, had more creative license and kneecapped a fascist without a downside for them.
