Just two examples of what I am dealing with on that other “social” network I sadly need to be a member of. This is gay people trying to eradicate trans people from queer history — while apparently also appointing themselves the Supreme Court of what “normal-looking” gay men and lesbians are. 🙄 And yes, history has an ugly little lesson here. In the Weimar Republic, there were gay men who were deeply attracted to nationalist and later Nazi ideology, including people who were quite happy to distinguish themselves from the “wrong sort” of queer people. Respectability, conformity and throwing other queer people under the bus did not make them safe. It did not save them. So when I see queer people trying to scrub trans people out of Stonewall, Pride and the history of our liberation, I pay attention. Because this isn't merely about the past. They want to erase us from history because they want to erase us from reality. And finally, can we talk about the “kiddo”, “child”, “babe” routine? A grown man disagreeing with a grown person and immediately reaching for infantilising language to establish dominance is not exactly a revolutionary new contribution to human civilisation. Hundreds of signs, and not one of them printed. Ordinary Minnesotans paid for their own tickets, sat at their own kitchen tables with markers out of a junk drawer, and made posters. No organization convened them. Nobody bused them in. The noise carried through the entire game. Three feet from all of it, a head coach with a roster to hold together wore four words in front of twenty thousand people and then said the plain accurate sentence into a hallway full of reporters. None of that was brave in a cinematic way. A shirt. A marker. A document filed. A man saying I was wrong into a microphone. Then she stood in a hallway and told reporters flat that the innuendo about trans women being predators is simply not what is happening. Stormé DeLarverie fought the police outside the Stonewall Inn. Casa Susanna opened in the Catskills so trans women could live openly for a weekend. Vito Russo counted a century of erased queer film and published the count. Every one of them was told they were the wrong person, in the wrong room, at the wrong moment. Pantry meal: skillet squash-and-lemon pasta — feeds 3, under $10, ten minutes → Seven things: 12 oz short pasta, two medium summer squash, four cloves garlic, olive oil, one lemon, half a cup breadcrumbs, grated parmesan. Boil the pasta. Toast the crumbs in oil with one minced clove until sandy-gold; set aside. Grate the squash coarse, hit the hot pan with it and the rest of the garlic for three minutes — it collapses fast — then add drained pasta, a splash of its water, lemon zest and juice, the cheese. Toss hard. Crumbs on top. Sandy Ernest Allen drove across the Catskills this year looking for Casa Susanna, the guesthouse where transfeminine people gathered through the '50s and '60s for twenty-five dollars a weekend. He found new construction. Hedges in burlap where the old trees stood. No plaque of any kind. What he had instead was his own living room, full of trans and queer neighbors eating cookies — gatherings he started after the 2025 inauguration for no better reason than that people needed somewhere to be. The house was the smaller half. The gathering is the part that survived, and it survived by being taken apart and rebuilt in a different county by a man who never met her and knew her only from photographs somebody found at a flea market. Her answer was now more than ever Katharina Fegebank told RTL that since the attack, plenty of people inside the LGBTQ community and outside it had been unsure whether Saturday was the right day to be out on the street. Woke up to more white gay men demanding Pride "go back to its roots," by which they seem to mean a tidy parade of respectable gays, not the riot it really was. Meanwhile, they label us "degenerates." Respectability never saved us. Plenty of gay men tried to be the "good ones" in the 1930s. They even ratted out other queer people. The Nazis sent them to the camps anyway. Stop recycling the language and politics that have always failed us. #Pride #LGBTQIA
