In early 2023, I took 2 cuttings from a rose plant at Jubilee Hospital gardens. I propagated the cuttings in our front yard. I grew them for my parents. Dad passed away before any of the cuttings propagated had matured enough to bloom. This year, it's blooming a lot. This is one of the roses from that propagation. #Spring #perennials #Saanich #VictoriaBC #VancouverIsland #VanIsle #PacificNorthwest #PNW #flowers #botanical #plants #garden #Bloomscrolling #florespondence #PollinatorGardens #FlowersIdentification #WhatsInMyGarden #WhatsBlooming #rose #PlantsPropagation

Remember that pumped hydro project sited on a Yakama sacred site? The one the developer said would power 500K Oregon and Washington homes?? The one that was supposedly critical to meeting WA's renewable energy goals??? JK it's actually for a data center. Green colonialism has been a scam all along. #Indigenous #Oregon #Washington #PNW #energy #LandBack https://www.streetroots.org/news-stories/2026/05/20/its-not-built-yet-yakama-nation-fights-3-3b-energy-project-and-data-center-development-on-sacred-site/

This weekend I took a trip up to the top of Baker Lake, in the Mt Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest in Washington, fed by snow and glacier melt of one of our 4 active volcanoes, Kulshan or Mt Baker (just look at the color of that water!) It's a fantastic time to hike along the river and lakeshore, the trees haven't fully leafed out and there's a lot of life happening on the forest floor. Plant-heavy thread ahead. 1/9 #PNW #nativeplants #hiking #getoutside #mountains

Rolling through my bird photos for the month, those that show up at our bird feeders. The Steller's Jay always a favorite. They have personality. They come for the peanuts, grab one and fly away with it to hide it. #nature #birds #photography #jay #StellersJay #PNW #birdphotography

It's not exactly a #bigfoot sighting, but maybe the next closest thing.... I saw a mountain beaver! They're not actually beavers, but a kind of "living fossil" rodent that's found only in the #PNW. I've been been hiking #Washington for literally decades, and known about them for almost that long, but this is the first time I've actually laid eyes on one. And yes like all good #cryptid photos these are blurry. #WildLife #wildlifephotography

I had one of those memorable #VancouverIsland days recently. A gathering of friends on the beach, salmon cooked around the fire, oysters (tluqw tluqw) picked off the beach and steamed around the fire, clams (s’aqw) steamed under the sand. Veggies were steamed nettles and maple flowers picked from nearby trees. Being fed by the land with food gathered by friends and cooked in traditional ways on the beach. #pnw #indigenous

Got grapes? We live in growing zone 8b in the greater Seattle area and are planning to try growing red seedless table grapes. Step 1 is to pick a variety. Any suggestions or other advice? We have gardened extensively for years so in general growing stuff is in our wheelhouse. The site where we would plant is well-drained and gets morning and mid-day sun with afternoon shade. The goal is fresh eating and drying to raisins. #Gardens #Gardening #GrowYourOwn #PNW #Seattle

Picture is from weekend before last but apparently winter isn't over yet since the Cascades got fresh snow this week. Going to go check it out tomorrow. Happy Friday! #pnw #footpathfriday

I know, I know I’m in #PNW and rain is a fact of life here. But, come on, I want one solid weekend with no rain and nothing but sunshine ☀️ 🌞 ☀️ I want one weekend I can go out running errands without having to use windshield wipers >>> command E: end rant 😄
