Does anyone else here grow #microgreens and, if so, what method do you use? I'm seeing several ideas across numerous websites and am not sure if it's best to use jars and daily water rinsing or to plant the seeds in compost? I have vague memories of using wet paper (kitchen roll?) for growing mustard & cress at school. Is that still 'a thing that works' or am I just showing my age?! Advice welcome 🤗 #GrowYourOwn

I found the old recipe for what my father called his "Chili Sauce" but always seemed to me to be a type of chutney or relish. The measurements for tomatoes and onions are by size not volume which seems odd but here's the image of the recipe card if anyone is interested. I think the origin goes back to our roots in Yorkshire in late Victorian times... #Onions #Gardening #Allotment #NewEngland #GYO #GrowYourOwn

Is anyone out there really buying this crap? Let's all go get antennas for our tomatoes... This is NOT an endorsement. https://kleone-copper.com/products/pure-copper-electro-culture-antenna?campaign_id=120243510297000495&ad_id=120248714133120495 #Gardening #Allotment #NewEngland #GYO #GrowYourOwn

We DID pick a few other things today to put out for the neighbors, but mostly worked on getting the onions out on the drying rack, which is really just a ladder and some bamboo canes on horses in the garage. This was our best onion harvest in a long time. Didn't count or weigh anything but they're mostly huge. 😀 🧅 #BeetBear #Onions #Gardening #Allotment #NewEngland #GYO #GrowYourOwn

I was thinking last year for this year of getting into growing more dwarf or micro dwarf tomato varieties and then held off as I was gifted large fruiting indeterminate varieties to try. Regretted not going ahead with that plan as it's felt a long wait for my bigger varieties to produce (especially with the difficult weather stressing greenhouse plants). Wondered if others here in N Europe have thoughts or experience on using dwarf varieties for early(er) harvests? #allotment #growyourown

#tomater #odlaEgenMat #odling #matUtanSkit #tomatoes #growyourown

#gardening #GrowYourOwn #tomatoes Next variety to ripen are the Costoluto Fiorentino. A medium-sized ribbed, relatively early, heirloom. We eat them fresh, but use them for roasting later in the season when the later heirlooms come in.

#gardening #GrowYourOwn #tomatoes Lots of varieties of tomatoes starting to ripen now, but the next one in most quantity are the Jaune Flamme. These are yellow/orange, about twice the size of cherry tomatoes. Third year I've planted them and they are now one of my favorites for salads and eating fresh.

... 4 months after the pic/post of the #practicalsolarpunk #polytunnel in construction ⬆️ - here it is again. Thanks to it being too hot to work outside this afternoon. Yesterday around 5pm, also over 37 C, it was actually cooler in there than outside. 🧵 /1 -- almost = angle to Feb photo ⬆️ -detail in alt txt. #growYourOwn

The pic of the Hokkaido squashes racing across the polytunnel roof in the prev post ⬆️ was taken 12 June. Then they got hit by the heat-"wave" which would have been over 40 C up there, and decided enough leaf!! But they kept on with the fruit-making business. ⬇️ more in alt txt #growYourOwn #gardening #practicalSolarPunk

Continuing the Hokkaido squash thread ⬆️🧵... yesterday 27-7 was another plant-roaster afternoon, with 40 deg C dry breeze, carrying wildfire smoke with it, perhaps from as far as Madrid. Some of the plants are hanging in, even putting out new shoots from closer to base but the long runners are dying back. There's even a very fast volunteer on the compost heap determined to make some late fruit. I cut one of a "clutch" of fruit which were making quite a sag in the tunnel polythene, about a metre out. 1.2 kg and about 20 cm dia. It was ripe and delicious! SO delicious, all gone in 2 meals today, inc some of the seeds which I cooked in situ. A 90% garden food day today, in fact. Passata from a 2 days ago, courgette, the squash, strawberries, herbs. Just bought-in peanut butter, olive oil and butter. Good energy day, which I'm attributing to this, despite more heat. That 50-ish kg of will get eaten very quickly. #growYourOwn #gardening #squash #aborboro
