Only 2 Eastern Canada premiers attend annual conference with New England governors Only two premiers and one out of six state governors attended the conference. One observer says the absences are a sign of the times as a cross-border trade war continues to escalate. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/only-2-eastern-canada-premiers-attend-annual-conference-with-new-england-governors-9.7302803?cmp=rss

The stuffed quahog: New England's hyperlocal 'stuffie' is the antidote to a $30 lobster roll https://cooking.nytimes.com/article/stuffed-quahogs-stuffies-new-england-clams A hyperlocal dish, the stuffed quahog, or “stuffie,” is especially suited to home cooking, and delightfully in reach. #food #seafood #newengland

I found the old recipe for what my father called his "Chili Sauce" but always seemed to me to be a type of chutney or relish. The measurements for tomatoes and onions are by size not volume which seems odd but here's the image of the recipe card if anyone is interested. I think the origin goes back to our roots in Yorkshire in late Victorian times... #Onions #Gardening #Allotment #NewEngland #GYO #GrowYourOwn

Is anyone out there really buying this crap? Let's all go get antennas for our tomatoes... This is NOT an endorsement. https://kleone-copper.com/products/pure-copper-electro-culture-antenna?campaign_id=120243510297000495&ad_id=120248714133120495 #Gardening #Allotment #NewEngland #GYO #GrowYourOwn

We DID pick a few other things today to put out for the neighbors, but mostly worked on getting the onions out on the drying rack, which is really just a ladder and some bamboo canes on horses in the garage. This was our best onion harvest in a long time. Didn't count or weigh anything but they're mostly huge. 😀 🧅 #BeetBear #Onions #Gardening #Allotment #NewEngland #GYO #GrowYourOwn

@AJ_andrew69@mastodon.social @gbsills@social.vivaldi.net For those not from #NewEngland, this was a thing. I still see a lot of "Town Farm Roads" in New England where the #TownFarms used to be. Forgotten New England The Town Farm – A Victorian-Era Solution to #Poverty by Ryan W. Owen, Writer and Photographer "Town farms were Victorian society’s equivalent to today’s homeless shelters, nursing homes, and mental hospitals. Often relegated to a far corner of town, unseen, forgotten, and hopefully self-sufficient, the town farm was created to instill a sense of industriousness and self-sufficiency in paupers who would, in turn, provide what labor they could to help run the farm. And, throughout most of the nineteenth century, it worked. The town farm in Billerica, Massachusetts once spanned over 150 acres, including 75 acres of forests. In 1880, the Billerica town farm housed some twenty employees and paupers, in addition to its horses, cows, pigs, and chickens." https://forgottennewengland.com/2011/10/11/youre-going-to-send-us-to-the-poor-fahm/ #PoorFahm #NewEnglandHistory

We are fortunate enough to be enjoying another VERY NICE summer day. Here's a look at what's going on in the veg. patch today and the surplus pickings out for the neighbors. I think we're going to have a lot of butternut squash this year... #Gardening #Allotment #NewEngland #GYO #GrowYourOwn

Tornado warning has expired with no drama here, all ok. Before retiring for the day here is a further Update on the pot-o-carrots. They're coming on just fine. Close look shows some good shoulders in there. Will pull a couple soon to check them out. reminder: It's a large planter, about 19 inches in diameter and 15 inches deep, holding about 12 gallons (43 liters) of potting mix. Planted 14 April. #BeetBear #Gardening #Allotment #NewEngland #carrots
