Today I planned to be a more easy day, though it has left me with an achy back and feeling tired enough to be disinclined to cook tea. The half bag of gravel for the driveway has been distributed, filling the divots where the car wheels sit. And two more raised beds have been put in place, following strategic weeding of the area first. Still, tea to cook, and bellringing practice tonight, and I've only walked 2000 steps. #gardening

I planted tomatoes, 2 eggplants, and 1 double tomatillo today. The tomato bed is getting carrots planted with them this year, and the other bed will be filled out with some basil. I have one cherry tomato to put in the ground, and maybe another tomatillo next to it and finish out that row with Kentucky blue pole beans. Peppers will go out soon but no hurry since they have a little bit of extra space now indoors. Saw the first spouts of cucumbers and melons today too. #gardening #GrowYourOwn

Advice needed. I plan to use 2l water bottles to slowly water my tomato plants. There are various methods inc. tubing and aquarium stuff but I’m going for the simple one of planting the bottle upside down with tiny holes in the lid (base cut off). First I made 4 tiny holes as per instructions but I’ve had slower showers tbh. Way too fast. 2nd go had 1 tiny hole (1.5mm), tights fabric over lid. Slower but emptied overnight. Is that about right, any ideas? Thanks 🙏 #gardening #SolarPunk

The wild geraniums (Geranium maculatum) are 3x larger than last year. I'm also finding their catapulted seeds germinating all over lol. I'm glad they're in a happy place. Such lovely color and doing great in part shade. #gardening #NorthernIllinois #NativePlants #BloomScrolling

April 30, 2026. Gardening journal. Thank you to the soil. The planned garden planting includes beans, beets, and chard. The best of the Hidatsa Shield beans will be planted. The biggest Hidatsa Shield can be sorted by hand and eye. The seeds for the beets, Arikara Yellow bean, and Cherokee Trail of Tears bean are from Seed Savers Exchange. The soil temperature is 11 Celsius. The frost warnings are for two more nights. #minnesota, #nodig , #zone4b, #indigenous, #growyourown, #gardening, #compost

Tonight's home grown bean is Good Mother Stallard. Not only holds its shape, but unlike any other bean I've ever eaten, the pattern on the skin is preserved. #gardening

Work (not) in progress. I'm taking a break from sieving soil today and clearing a space for the next pair of raised beds to go - approx where the wheelbarrow is. Need to get wood chips to go down on the black gravel grids. Buff gravel grids have been cut ready to make a start on improving the stone path, which also needs extending. Also need more grids to complete it, though we have the gravel (sitting on the drive) and the edging stones. Next up today, moving the turf pile which will mulch down into more soil for the raised beds if I give it a few months. Then I might do this tiny bit of shredding just to get it out of the way. A bit hot to be doing hard work today! #gardening

Last year, I added some woodland sedge (Carex blanda) to help the Golden Alexander (Zizia aurea) stay more upright. It's working better so far but there's still a lot of growth to come. #gardening #NativePlants

RE: https://cultofshiv.wtf/@EmandEmz/116476690843284292 Me and Emily have put in a massive amount of time on the garden today, seeding, potting and repotting. We have done as much sieving through the mound of soil dug up and mixed in the last of our compost and used up the last of our heavy duty bags so we are at a standstill until we get more of these. Two women (half the time one as Emily has college and exam revision) working with almost no equipment and resources trying to prove that we can achieve when we put our minds and strength into it. If you can help with any resources please do 🙏🏼 #lgbtq #affirmtranskids #womenempowerment #gardening #nature #outdoors

Spent as much time as my body will allow me sorting out the ground in my garden for planting vegetable plants, sore hips, knees and elbows have restricted me a little. It all started with my best friend buying me a tin of seeds to help me have something to help with my mental health, as she lives the other end of the country she can’t be there for me as much as she would like, learning something new, sticking with it through the challenges that arise and learning to deal with the failures and learn from them so that I can continue to get stronger and heal. Little did I know that the ground in my garden was so bad, huge rocks, bricks, glass and tiles are just some of the things I’m sieving through. I’ve had to did down daily deep, one bed at a time, sieve out the debris and mix what soil remains with some compost (which I buy a bag of once a week with my shopping as that is as much as my budget will allow) then start filling up the hole and hope I will end up with good enough soil for my plants to survive. This is my only option to continue with this project, I have very limited money, I don’t drive so the few free items I’ve been able to get I’ve had to ask my very busy son to pick up but I can only rely on him to an extent. Despite all this I’m sticking with it, getting there very slowly and achieving. #gardening #challenge #vegetablegarden #mentalhealthawareness If anyone would care to help with this project, especially soil, please do here https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/1BEULWC9BF2ZJ?ref_=wl_share
