Sometimes you don't need a whole plot to have a garden but knowledge, so if knowledge is wealthy let us make it reality, starting from the availability materials. 100 hundred crops in our area at a time. If you wish to start one am always here? 😊 #mastodon.social #Nature #gardening #NewHere #gardens #sustainability #farming

Dear researchers, I am sick of #Elsevier and their antics (ridiculous APCs, inaccessible articles, unauthorised data-mininig, etc.) and want to avoid publishing with them as much as possible.

Can you suggest good journals in the following topics / fields (society journals welcome):

  1. #microalgae
  2. #molecularbiology
  3. #crispr
  4. #sustainability

#opensource #openaccess #academicresearch #academia

Please #boost so I can reach other academics.

Observer | The End of the Sustainability Premium by Goutam Challagalla and Frédéric Dalsace AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. The article argues that the long‑standing belief that consumers will pay a “sustainability premium” is misguided; research shows a large “say‑do” gap—people claim they value eco‑friendly products but only pay 2‑3 % more in practice. Companies that succeed now treat sustainability as a source of innovation that improves core product performance, lowers costs, or enhances convenience, rather than as a marketing tagline. Examples include John Deere’s precision farming tools that boost yields and cut inputs, Finish’s dishwasher tablets that eliminate pre‑rinsing, Electrolux’s care‑drum washers that extend garment life, and Schneider Electric’s energy‑efficiency solutions—each delivering tangible customer benefits while delivering environmental gains automatically. Conversely, products like plant‑based meats falter when sustainability compromises price, taste, or convenience. The authors conclude that the next wave of sustainable business will reward firms that embed environmental improvements into outcomes customers already value, turning sustainability into a durable competitive advantage instead of a costly premium. Introducing ChatSLM. A small language model with a big heart. ▪ 0 tokens per query ▪ 0 L cooling water ▪ runs on a single ARM64 core in Nuremberg, hosted on FreeBSD. ▪ no telemetry, nothing sent anywhere ▪ consistent, reproducible answers every single time Give it a try. It's often quite helpful. https://chat.rootshell.cx #AI #SelfHosting #Sustainability #LLM

🇬🇧 Animal fur: “ban” on a voluntary basis by Camera Moda A step towards ending animal abuse or another non-binding guideline? A "voluntary ban" on fur. Sounds good. But here's the problem: when fashion self-regulates, who really wins? Not the animals (imported fur is still legal). Not the workers (same logic tried to erase supply chain liability). Just brands. Protected as always. Solo i brand. Protetti come sempre. Rooftop solar has huge potential for decentralised electricity generation. I bought a solar generator recently and am impressed at what it can do, despite the modest investment. We are on the cusp of generating a large portion of energy from the sun, though it does require battery installation to make it worthwhile... https://joint-research-centre.ec.europa.eu/jrc-news-and-updates/rooftop-solar-could-meet-40-eus-long-term-electricity-demand-2026-01-21_en #SolarPower #Sustainability #Environment #CleanEnergy

The UK government commissioned a national security report on the implications of Biodiversity loss. Then Number 10 apparently decided against publishing it (last year). A couple of FOI requests later and an (allegedly) heavily redacted summary was released earlier this year without fanfare to satisfy legal requirements. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/nature-security-assessment-on-global-biodiversity-loss-ecosystem-collapse-and-national-security Even the summary page makes for sobering reading. #UKPol #Sustainability #Environment #Biodiversity

The pattern is clear: Rome, Britain, and now Silicon Valley. Empires don't fall because they innovate too slowly, but because they hoard power and smother the local, messy resilience that kept them adaptable. Centralization is the seductive prelude to collapse, not the proof of strength. #History #Tech #Sustainability

Plastic recycling isn’t a solution. It is a marketing campaign designed to shift the burden of waste from the manufacturer to the consumer. Most plastic is "downcycled" once, then heads straight to the landfill or the ocean. The only real way to keep plastic out of the environment is to stop producing it. #Environment #PlasticPollution #CircularEconomy #Sustainability

40% of every calorie the U.S. grows rots in a landfill. Methane 80x more potent than CO2. https://twp.ai/E59yDA composting alone could equal taking 15 MILLION cars off the road for 30 years. The supermarket's aesthetic standard. The planet's bill. Today's Daily Gathering — plate, apothecary, politics of rot: #ClimateAction #FoodWaste #Composting #Sustainabilityhttps://twp.ai/9OUj16
