Once Upon a Forest: A Twig Poet’s Rewilding Journey (18 mins) As a child, Maria struggled to fit into a conventional life. But the forest—with its gnarled twigs and quiet strength—offered her a path to healing and purpose. Now known as Sweden’s “twig poet,” she transforms nature’s remnants into powerful sculptures and poetry. She replanted thousands of leaf trees that tried to grow in ditches or under electric lines and wouldn't have had a chance there, and put them in her family's bark-beetle decimated spruce monoculture. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5ozGHIK03A #rewilding #forest #sweden #ClimateAnxiety #BarkBeetle #ClimateChange #restoration #NatureTherapy #Biodiversity

*Of course* the nerds restoring original Star Wars from film to spite the special edition have spent over $16,000 of their own money buying reels, having them professionally cleaned, professionally digitised (scanned at 100MB per frame), and then on the storage needed to allow editing of such a huge amount of data. And of course that's going to be nothing compared to the amount of personal love and labour put into such a project. I'm kinda in awe, and I *love* that people do this. https://www.thestarwarstrilogy.com/project-4k80/ #StarWars #4k80 #4k77 #restoration #movies #film

Forest Restoration Solutions

Tree growing has become one of the most widely promoted responses to climate change and ecosystem degradation, with governments, companies and nonprofits pledging to restore hundreds of millions of hectares of forests worldwide. But restoring ecosystems is far more complex than putting seedlings in the ground. This Special examines what it takes to rebuild forest […]

@nada@manganiello.eu Thank you. The before-and-after pictures of Gaza only bring tears to my eyes. From a vibrant environment to utter destruction that continues to this day. Palestine deserves complete restoration, food, education, health care and free trade with other countries. Nobody can take away the scars of the genocide, but we can help make Palestine a haven of peace and prosperity for the children and grandchildren. Just as we did for the sufferers of WWII. #Gaza #Palestine #Restoration

NATIONAL TIGER DAY!!!! RAWR!!!! The tigers never asked anybody to save them, and they sure as hell never asked to get squeezed onto twenty leftover acres by some mining outfit's quarterly report. They don't know they're a symbol. They just keep walking their shrinking ground like it still belongs to them — because it does — and somewhere in Sumatra tonight, a person with a headlamp and a machete is out there making damn sure that's still true for one more night, for free, because somebody has to, and she decided it was going to be her. #Nature #ClimateHope #Rewilding #Seagrass #Conservation #Solidarity #News #Photography #Environment #Hope #Wildlife #Restoration https://twp.ai/4huO17

"We draw a crowd if we’re on a public beach. Everyone wants to see the wild endangered birds run away. "It’s a little bit anticlimactic, though, honestly, because the camouflage on the chicks is so good that you let them go, and they run off into the sand in the distance, and then you just don’t see them again." #rewilding #greatlakes #detroit #michigan #pipingplovers #birds #wildlife #restoration #ecologyhttps://www.rewildingmag.com/the-great-lakes-piping-plover-is-making-a-comeback/

The Great Lakes Piping Plover Is Making a Comeback

In the 1980s, this bird's population reached a low of just 17 pairs. But effort and care is bringing them back from the brink.

This is my current rabbit hole 🤩 People using simple methods to harvest storm water, heal landscapes, prevent erosion and floods, capture water for ecosystems and neighbourhoods alike... It's a humble mindset that invites awe and wonder while being light-hearted and rollling up their sleeves like "ok let's DO THIS!" and not letting the coloniser/capitalist mindset get in the way. Seeing things get better than seemed possible before. But it is happening. 💁🏻‍♀️ TIL: 🦋📚 Designer Nicholas Rougeux has digitally restored over 1,300 color plates from the #19thcentury "Naturalist’s #Library," making them free to browse online. Originally published as affordable #Victorian-era volumes on global #flora and #fauna, the collection brought naturalist knowledge to a wide public. Okay, this apparently is what this is supposed to look like (photo found on the Interwebs). Not sure why he removed all the transistors, but I suspect he probably assumed they were blown because no audio out. 1978 model. I think the first order of business will be to see if the transistors can be tested and also replacing all the capacitors in this thing. (off to Mouser or Digikey again I guess lol). #electronics #restoration
