Fibre’s structural integrity keeps plants strong – and its indigestibility keeps your digestive system healthy https://theconversation.com/fibers-structural-integrity-keeps-plants-strong-and-its-indigestibility-keeps-your-digestive-system-healthy-280248 #health #chemistry #biology #science #STEM

Cicadas don’t fight predators. They avoid them. By emerging in prime-number cycles, they minimise overlap with predator populations. Persistence through timing, not resistance. “When the Boundary Is Time — Cicadas” https://open.substack.com/pub/hybridmind42/p/phase-2-when-the-boundary-is-time?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=75c2ac #SystemsThinking #ComplexSystems #Biology #Ecology #Evolution #BoundaryDynamics #BFPF #HybridMind42 #Adaptation #PatternRecognition #Time

Over the past series of posts, I’ve been exploring how systems fail—and how some persist. Across engineering, biology, and digital systems, the same structural patterns keep appearing. This post brings them together. It’s a simple index of ten case studies, each showing a different way a system can fail, adapt, or disappear. No new theory here—just the map. “The Boundary Failure Series — A Master Index of Systemic Persistence” https://substack.com/@hybridmind42/note/c-249620403?r=75c2ac #SystemsThinking #ComplexSystems #BoundaryDynamics #BFPF #HybridMind42 #FailureAnalysis #Resilience #Engineering #Biology #Physics #StructuralAnalysis #Adaptation

🦦🍫 Giant #otter triplets born at #Chester Zoo weigh about 200 grams each at birth. These offspring of first-time parents Bonita and Manu belong to the largest otter species on Earth. The pups will eventually reach 2 meters in length and weigh more than 30 kg. 👉 https://www.popsci.com/environment/new-otter-babies/ #otters #wildlife #conservation #biology #nature #animals #zoology #chesterzoo #science #ecosystem #mammals

I've finished the octopus and labelled him, and also stitched a bit more of the tree, adding the label for the Gastropods. A little bit more tree to do then I'm on to the last two animals of this part – the nudibranch and the snail. Pattern by Climbing Goat Designs. #WIPWednesday #WIP #crossStitch #biology

What Physical ‘Life Force’ Turns Biology’s Wheels? Evolution has created the flagellar motor, a combination propeller/brain that enables single-celled bacteria to move toward food sources. It’s an electric motor that rotates at several hundred revolutions per second — faster than the flywheel in a race car engine — to twirl a tail-like flagellum that pushes the cell along. When the flagellar motor rotates counterclockwise, it propels the cell through the water 10 or more times its own length in a second. https://bit.ly/4vISKM5 #Evolution #creationalism #biology

#Wildlife #biology, #ecology, and #animalwelfare research present a consistent picture: wildlife populations regulate themselves when habitats are intact and natural predators are present. Hobby hunting as a leisure activity is not a conservation service. And #ecosystem s do not collapse without hobby hunters. For as long as myths continue to shape policy, evidence-based wildlife management will remain the exception. https://wildbeimwild.com/en/jagdlobby-mythen-6-behauptungen-im-faktencheck/

[inhales deeply, holds breath] Um... dude... have you ever, like, wondered why, you know, humans don't have tails? I'm working on the cephalopods on the Animals Tree of Life – I've finished the nautilus now and have made a start on the octopus. Pattern by Climbing Goat Designs. #WIPWednesday #WIP #crossStitch #biology
