Just wanted to pass along a great resource on setting up iocaine - FOSS tarpit software that doesn't just block LLM scrapers (which could cause them to change tactics) but traps them in a link maze of cheaply-produced garbage designed to poison their datasets. This is a great example of the kind of asymmetric tactics that work against these big companies. It can save you bandwidth/system resources and make swallowing up the commons more expensive for them. https://winnerwind.in/tutorials/self-host/iocaine #solarpunk

The StorySeedLibrary/Andrewism Disaster Preparedness/Response art collab just wrapped up, so it's time to share my piece!

I wanted to focus on the preparedness side, and to talk about levee removal and house shifting. Both are super practical, effective, solarpunk practices already being done IRL. The airship is probably the most dramatic way to shift a house, but I think I finally got the scale and details right (hold might be a bit large). CC-BY as always

This one is a little more editorial than some of the other pages, (which are closer to being lists of links) but it’s a complicated topic which needs some introduction. And to be honest I think about this topic a lot, as someone who always has more projects going than he can finish, and because I really hate this (capitalist) idea that people are inherently lazy and won’t work unless compelled to with the threat of poverty, starvation, homelessness etc

@ljwrites@writeout.ink @writingbooks@fedigroups.social The book Murder in the Tool Library uses this perspective mechanism a bit. Some of the members of the Citizens Detective Society tasked with solving the titular crime are older folks who remember how things were done in the past and who are sometimes struck by how much things have changed. The bloodhound trainer Nakamura (a former police officer in the old world) especially brings this perspective to the story. It really is a very useful way to do worldbuilding

@wanderingleaf I think my favorite is still Murder in the Tool Library. It uses a murder mystery to explore an excellent aspirational solarpunk setting, and goes in depth on ideas around how a society without police as we know them can investigate harms and also guard the organizations that do so against power grabs and other abuses. I'm actually using some of AE Marling's answers as a template in a project I'm working on now. https://slrpnk.net/post/35979981

@makary oh hey! We're doing the sort of polish-stage edits right now, which will take a few weeks to a month optimistically. The full game book clocks in at over 300 pages though, so realistically we could probably give the art two or three months without it actually delaying the release of the campaign, and even then, a delay for a good cover might be worth it.

@KiloGex@dice.camp If you want an early look, it's a @FullyAutomatedRPG@mstdn.games project - we're just going through the final edits in the development channels. I'm hoping to run one last online playthrough to celebrate when we finally manage to kick it out the door.

@KiloGex@dice.camp Thank you! It's been a lot of fun to write and run and play, and we'll be releasing the full campaign CC-BY-SA, as soon as we finish edits and make a cover, so it'll be completely free to download, play, and even modify. It covers a bunch of solarpunk topics around rural areas, especially how exurbs/bedroom communities may change in a largely post-car world.

If you know (or are!) someone who can work in the sort of painterly, exaggerated but realistic-ish style frequently used by pulp adventure books and magazines in the 50s and 60s we'd love to talk! We've still got most of the funds from the first commission attempt available, and can flex a bit to get this made. For a bit of an idea what we're looking for, I've attached a sketch from when we were talking things out with our first artist. #solarpunk #art #artist #scifi #digitalart

For the last couple years I've been working on a #solarpunk TTRPG treasure hunting adventure where the players search a mostly-abandoned town (undergoing deconstruction and rewilding) for industrial waste illegally dumped there decades before.

I had hired an artist to paint the cover art in the style of pulp adventure novels, as the campaign inverts and riffs on those sort of lost city tropes. Unfortunately they had to drop out for life-happened reasons. So we're looking for an artist!

@flaki@flaki.social @alxd@writing.exchange Similarly they found you can basically cover the whole envelope in panels, even the underside! Clouds bounce a lot of light around and you can get decent output all over. Between all that and the much more efficient electric motors (waaay more horsepower for the same weight, including motors just for manuvering) and you can get surprisingly fast, manuverable craft with far more capacity than a plane (or several!). They might not be as fast but they can haul much more per trip.

@flaki@flaki.social @alxd@writing.exchange as for the solar powered part, from what I remember the math is... okay on that. With current panel tech you probably can't run the airship's propulsion just off solar, but airships are actually better suited to electrification than other flying vehicles - planes and helicopters get more efficient as they use up their fuel (less weight) but airships want to maintain a consistent buoyancy and have lift to spare so a battery that stays the same weight makes their job easier

@flaki@flaki.social @alxd@writing.exchange Unfortunately the square cube law says they make the most sense when they're quite large - which makes them a bit more like rockets or other big prestige megaprojects, hard/expensive to prototype and iterate on. It's also kinda late to be trying to stand up a whole new branch of aviation - a lot of the safety environment is pretty well set at this point and there are a lot more hurdles today than in the past. Just the same there are some really cool projects underway.

@flaki@flaki.social @alxd@writing.exchange yes! I'm actually working on a worldbuilding resource on airships with another person who is far more knowledgeable on them - airships have a ton of potential, especially with the vastly improved technology and materials available in the modern day. They make a ton of sense in the cargo helicopter niche, being safer, able to haul larger cargoes longer distances. They may also make sense for cargo and passenger service in some niches!

Passing this link on from the fractal anarchism community on slrpnk.net. It's probably just a reminder or reinforcement for a lot of folks on here but it makes a good case for building community wherever possible, as a foundation for other action:
