I really like the new #mastodon #collections - I can't wait to be able to add #pixelfed accounts too. and I'm wondering, I thought, it will work with #loops account already @dansup@mastodon.social ? But even I have the setting set to "permission required" I can't add myself .

Mal eine Frage an die #pixelfed Experten/Expertinnen: Bei pixelfeld.de im Browser kann ich mich problemlos einloggen. In der App für Android auf #murena_eos geht es nicht. Die Meldung, ich wäre offline wird angezeigt. Jemand Rat? Danke...

I'm back on @pixelfed@mastodon.social full time and can't wait to ship the new webUI and mobile app redesign. every page, screen and API endpoint is getting federation, performance and network improvements, and every known bug is getting fixed. 1 million people call

Ich habe überlegt, dass man noch mal mehr #Fediverse pushen könnte für Kiel. Vor allem mehr Pixelfed statt Instagram. Unterm Strich ist #Pixelfed gar nicht so schlecht, aber es fehlen halt eine Hand voll Accounts, wo man sich schon mal die Bälle zuspielen könnte. Ich mache ja auch @kulturgaarden und versuche immer hin meinen und den Account zu verknüpfen, neben auch @kielkontrovers@pixelfed.de Welcher Hashtag? #FediKiel ? #Feditreffkiel #Kiel #neuhier

#pixelfed login is working again in the latest #fedicat testflight build, it was probably broken for three months (I'm beginning to suspect I don't have any pixelfed users)

Pixelfed has a known bug about the federation, and deleting Pixelfed posts and/or accounts don't delete them on remote servers. https://github.com/pixelfed/pixelfed/issues/6600 #pixelfed #github #fediverse #federation

One of the killer features from @HolosSocial@mastodon.social is for me, that you can use your own domain. This means, as a band, author etc you can promote everywhere your handle with @name@my_own_domain.tld This is so perfect. This means your handle will still be correct if the instance you chose in the beginning is not alive anymore. I would love to see this feature in #Mastodon, #Pixelfed #loops #peertube and the #bridge @Mastodon@mastodon.social @dansup@mastodon.social 1/3

Pixelfed users, your DMs are closed to strangers by default.

If you would like to receive DMs from people you don’t follow, you need to adjust your settings:

Log into your account on your Pixelfed server’s website
Go to “Account Settings”
Go to “Privacy”
Tick the box marked “Receive Direct Messages from anyone”
Click the “Submit” button at the bottom of the screen

If you change your mind, repeat the process but untick the box instead.

Understanding the Fediverse: How ActivityPub is Reshaping Social Media

In recent years, a new term has been gaining attention in discussions about alternative social networks: the Fediverse. But what exactly is it? How does the underlying protocol ActivityPub work—and which platforms are part of it?

What is the Fediverse?

The word Fediverse is a combination of federation and universe. It refers to a network of independent servers (called instances) that can communicate with each other.

Unlike traditional social networks like Facebook or X (Twitter), which are centrally controlled, the Fediverse is decentralized:

Anyone can run their own server

Each instance has its own rules and moderation

Users can interact across different servers

The result is an open ecosystem instead of a single platform.

The Core: How ActivityPub Works

ActivityPub is an open standard (developed by the W3C) that defines how servers in the Fediverse communicate with each other.

At its core, ActivityPub is built around two main concepts:

Actors

Every user, group, or even bot is considered an actor.

New posts are automatically delivered to Server A

All of this happens via HTTP and JSON—similar to modern web APIs.

The Inbox & Outbox Model

ActivityPub uses a clear communication structure:

Outbox: Where a user sends activities

Inbox: Where a user receives activities

Each server manages these and distributes content to other servers.

Benefits of ActivityPub

Decentralization: No single point of control

Interoperability: Different platforms can work together

User autonomy: You choose your server

Resilience: No single point of failure
