Current vs New :pixelfed: sidebar nav. As I redesign Pixelfed, I will share behind the scenes info, and explain my reasoning. Thanks to https://piaille.fr/@__Styx__/116878108273801317 for suggesting this. The current sidebar puts too much emphasis on the wrong things, instead of having 3 separate feed buttons, we now have one, and you can switch between feeds there. We also didn't prioritize the bookmark and collections features, which we think will play a much bigger role in the future. #pixelfed #pixeldev #ui

I can't explain how much fun I'm having redesigning the Pixelfed webUI from scratch. The last time I updated it was in 2020, using bootstrap 4 and vue 2. Now it's tailwind 4 and vue 3, and I must say, the composition API is wonderful. I've gone through several designs, and finally sat down and built a proper design system the new webUI uses for consistent and beautiful layouts. I want to post a screenshot so bad, but I will focus on shipping this ASAP ✨ #pixelfed #pixeldev

I'm about to ship a @PixelFed update that fixes the broken Personal Access Token feature! Laravel Passport removed this in v13, and I was busy with Loops so I never got around to it, but now I fixed it 🤘 #pixelfed #pixeldev

Back to working on the new Pixelfed mobile app. I know performance is important, and am aggressively caching some endpoints client side, reducing server load and making screens load much faster! #pixelfed #pixeldev

Alright, now back to Pixelfed dev. Currently building a new laravel app to onboard beta testers for the new Pixelfed app! Login with your Pixelfed account and link your Patreon account or verify your kickstarter backer email to get invited to the TestFlight (and later Google Play beta). This ensures we will have room for all supporters, rather than sharing a public testflight url. #pixelfed #pixeldev

When you scroll down, the navbar minimizes to free up space for what matters. One tap and it opens, and expands when you are at the top of the feed! #pixelfed #pixeldev

NativeBase -> Tamagui -> twrnc Tailwind has the best DX, bringing this to react-native has made UI dev so much better. Pixelfed is now on its 3rd major UI rewrite, and I'm borrowing a lot of experience from my twrnc usage on the new Loops app 😎 #reactNative #nativeBase #tamagui #twrnc #pixelfed #pixeldev

When I built the Pixelfed frontend, I thought bootstrap was the only way and wasn't very skilled with javascript. Fast forward to 2026 and I've shipped half a dozen SPA's across the fediverse, including https://joinloops.org https://fedidb.com https://fediverse.info and https://loops.video And 3 react-native mobile apps. Now I am building a whole new Pixelfed frontend from scratch, and I couldn't be happier. It's about time for :pixelfed: to shine ✨ #Pixelfed #PixelDev

vite + unplugin-auto-import + vueuse are 🔥 Amazing dev productivity without having to run node in production. Admins can compile the frontend, or use the precompiled assets. After the new frontend is shipped, I'll work on the backend to reduce complexity and make Pixelfed much easier to install 🚀 #PixelDev

I spent the last few hours removing the existing frontend, adding the new scaffolding (partially based on Loops) and creating reusable components based on our new design system to keep everything consistent. Performance has improved noticeably by removing middleware that checked 2FA and valid email on every request, as we now handle that during authentication. Can't wait to ship this ASAP, and for the Loops fam, I'll be back 😎 #Pixelfed #PixelDev

I'm having a lot of fun working on the new Pixelfed web redesign. Not only is it so much prettier and cleaner, but it's also so much faster and responsive. Remember Loops webUI in 2024 and how much better it is now? Yeah, it's like that, but even better. I'm not going to tease screenshots, I'd rather ship this ASAP so you can see yourself. :pixelfed: #Pixelfed #PixelDev
