To all the #developers that love #ai and say how awesome it is to generate #code. I have one question for you. How do you suppose to cope with the energy and water consumption? No clue if a technology that waste enormous amounts of water and energy is a great thing to have if thats the case why don't all humans have super computers in their house? Furthermore how do you think will people with less income cope with that technology. I don't personally think that tokens will get cheaper.

“Now that organisations have been weaned off earlier 'all you can eat' #subscription plans and onto 'pay-as-you-go' metered #token consumption, they're all in various stages of sticker shock. Several talks at the conference discussed managing token costs, such as AJ Fisher's exploration of 'diffusion' models. Analogous to the diffusers used to generate images, they generate text at lighting speed, making them cheaper to operate while also being less accurate than the pricey and slower “autoregressive” #FrontierModels. Fisher's solution? Use a low-quality model and make it iterate on a problem (that new classic, the #RalphWiggumLoop) until it gets a satisfactory solution. This approach delivers the same result as a full-fat model, for anywhere from one half to one tenth the spend. #Google released its #DiffusionGemma model, which produces text at prodigious speed, just days after Fisher's talk, giving everyone the ability to try this approach.” #AI / #ArtificialIntelligence / #developers / #software

À un moment donné, cette expérience là, ça se paye. Je commence à être vraiment écoeuré de mettre autant d'effort pour me faire exploiter. Surtout quand le coût pour un toit au-dessus de sa tête est rendu aussi ridicule. Mes parents étaient conseillés dans une institution financière. Dans les années 80 ils se sont achetés une maison semi-détachée pour 1x leur salaire annuel combiné grâce à un programme d'aide à l'achat du gouvernement qui limitait le coût de l'achat d'une première propriété. Ils faisaient $60k par an combiné. En 2026 ajusté pour l'inflation c'est $170k par an approximativement. Leur maison aujourd'hui se vendrait dans les $600k+. C'est plus que 3.5x le salaire qu'ils auraient aujourd'hui! Mais, attention! Le salaire moyen d'un conseiller financier chez Desjardins aujourd'hui est de ... $70k par année! La même chose est arrivée en 2008 lorsque j'ai commencé ma carrière. Et les salaires ont stagné pendait environ 10 ans. En tant qu'ingénieur logiciel de formation, c'était difficile de passer la barre du $60k par année. Sauf que le coût de la vie était pas mal moins cher qu'aujourd'hui. Maintenant, pour un DevOps sénior, on offre entre $85k et $100k par année. On demande d'être certifié pour une collection de services cloud comme Azure, AWS, GCP ou pour des technologies comme Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, Ansible, Puppet et j'en passe. On demande d'être designer et développeur logiciel en une panoplie de langages, de faire l'automatisation via CICD avec Jenkins ou Azure DevOps ou GitHub Actions ou GitLab, d'être expert en cyber sécurité, d'être architecte cloud et tout connaître les services et composantes cloud. Je suis employé à temps plein chez le même employeur depuis un moment, mais je reste toujours ouvert à d'autres opportunités ailleurs. Récemment, j'ai été contacté par plusieurs recruteurs qui m'ont permis d'avoir des entrevues pour des postes de DevOps à différents endroits. Ce que j'ai remarqué est que les salaires offerts sont à la baisse. L'an passé il y a eu des mises à pieds massives dans le domaine des TI en Amérique du Nord et ailleurs, en partie à cause de l'entrée de l'IA sur le marché. Les compagnies se sont rendues compte de l'inefficacité et des coûts de l'IA et cherchent à ré-embaucher les experts qu'ils ont perdus. Sauf que... maintenant ils offrent moins, car l'IA peut faire une partie du travail. Je trouve ça vraiment croche de la part des compagnies. À un moment où le coût de la vie atteint des sommets qu'on a jamais vu auparavant, on est en train de nous couper l'herbe sous les pieds. #IT #ITCareers #Carriere #CarriereTI #Canada #Quebec #Montreal #jobs #emplois #developers #devops

🎛️🐳 WSL primește propriul runtime nativ pentru containere Linux, cu comenzi similare cu Docker 🚀🪟 Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) primește o actualizare majoră care promite să schimbe radical modul în care dezvoltatorii gestionează containerele pe Windows. Microsoft introduce un runtime nativ de containere integrat direct în WSL, echipat cu un utilitar în linie de comandă care imită aproape perfect sintaxa și comportamentul Docker. Această mișcare transformă WSL dintr-un simplu mediu de rulare Linux într-o platformă de containerizare de sine stătătoare, capabilă să concureze direct cu soluțiile tradiționale. Iată principalele noutăți și avantaje ale acestui nou runtime nativ: 🔹 Adio Docker Desktop sau Podman: Până acum, pentru a rula containere în siguranță pe Windows, utilizatorii depindeau de aplicații desktop complexe precum Docker Desktop (care implică costuri de licențiere în mediile enterprise) sau de alternative precum Podman. Noul runtime este încorporat direct în arhitectura WSL, eliminând complet nevoia de unelte software terțe. 🔹 Sintaxă familiară și comenzi „Docker-like”: Dezvoltatorii nu vor fi nevoiți să învețe un set nou de instrucțiuni. CLI-ul integrat folosește aceleași concepte și comenzi fundamentale cu care comunitatea este deja obișnuită (cum ar fi run, build, ps, images sau stop), făcând tranziția complet invizibilă pentru scripturile și fluxurile de lucru existente. 🔹 Performanță brută și pornire instantanee: Fiind o soluție nativă care comunică direct cu micro-kernelul Linux din WSL, noul runtime elimină în totalitate overhead-ul (consumul suplimentar de resurse) generat de straturile de traducere ale aplicațiilor mari. Containerele pornesc în fracțiuni de secundă și au o amprentă de memorie RAM extrem de redusă. 🔹 Viteză masivă pentru volumele de date (I/O): Una dintre cele mai mari probleme istorice ale dezvoltatorilor pe Windows a fost viteza lentă de citire/scriere atunci când mapau directoare din Windows în containere Linux. Prin integrarea directă în WSL, accesul la sistemul de fișiere devine unificat și mult mai rapid, optimizând rularea aplicațiilor care procesează volume mari de date (baze de date, medii de build).
