I’ve started a new server for those of us obsessed with selfhosting and homelabbing. If you love tinkering with servers, automating your house, or just hoarding data, come say hi! It’s a chill place to learn, share, and troubleshoot together. https://fluxer.gg/XvkwhHrb #homelab #selfhosting #community #fluxer #chat #servers

With all of the #privacy concerns around various email providers, I guess I will just have to deal with the pain of hosting my own mail. #homelab #selfhost

From Plex to Jellyfin, Part 2: The Case for Navidrome (and Why Jellyfin Doesn't Get My Music) Jellyfin handles music. It just doesn't handle it well. Here's the argument for splitting the stack and running Navidrome as a dedicated music server so Jellyfin never has to touch your music library at all. https://jasontucker.blog/from-plex-to-jellyfin-part-2-navidrome/ #homelab #jellyfin #navidrome #unraid #docker #music #self-hosting

Backup-Strategien. Welche Aspekte bei diesen Themen wären Euch besonders wichtig? #organisation #dateien #dateimanager #files #nextcloud #homeserver #homelab

#introduction 👋 Servus Fediverse! Ich bin Tom Kenobi - FOSS-/Privacy-Freund, Homelab-Bastler und Linux-Mensch. Was nicht selbst gehostet läuft, fehlt mir irgendwie.

#SelfHosting #NixOS #Homelab #linux

This is my current pragmatic privacy stack. I am happy with where it sits. It is mostly sovereign, some necessary compromises. Note: There is no right answer here. I am not telling you what to do. I am only sharing my experience after spending the last couple of years taking back my sovereignty. Wins: Linux was my gateway drug. CachyOS + kernel tweaks keep me in control without losing convenience. Self hosting on two homelab nodes lets me experiment freely. Proton replaced 90% of my Google dependency (Mail, Drive, Pass, Calendar), making deGoogling actually feasible. Home Assistant and Jellyfin are zero enshittification, no subs, no PLEX bloat. Unhappy Middle: Search is still a headache. DuckDuckGo feels like a fallback, not a solution. Metager is better but paying for search rubs me wrong. Web registration is sloppy right now (Porkbun/Cloudflare mix) need to audit that. DNS is mostly Quad9 out of laziness. Pi-hole or AdGuard is next on the list. And yes, Discord is back. Trying to get friends onto Matrix or Signal feels like herding cats, some bridges are too far burned to cross. Hard Acceptances: I’m not running GrapheneOS (bootloader locked on my Pixel 10 Pro XL). I accept Steam, Obsidian, and Discord as permanent fixtures. And honestly, Google Maps and YouTube aren't going anywhere either. The convenience to privacy ratio just doesn't tip the scale there. You trade purity for functionality sometimes, and that’s okay. Next: Fixing DNS, auditing registrars, and maybe finally ripping those blurays into Jellyfin properly. Privacy isn’t binary. It’s a spectrum of control we fight for each day. #Privacy #DeGoogle #DigitalSovereignty #CachyOS #HomeLab #FOSS #Proton #Jellyfin #Mastodon

amongst my less smarter things was trying to set up another #wireguard tunnel on a #homelab mini pc in my parent's basement that killed my #Tailscale setup so i essentially got locked out 🤐

Renting in Germany means no split AC bolted to the facade, so my top-floor 1970s office got the consolation prize: a single-hose "monoblock" portable. Plot twist: the compressor was never the problem. The window was. These things leak most of their cooling back in through the unsealed hole the exhaust hose runs through. My fix: a cheap XPS panel clamped under the roller blind, hose port sealed with rubber tape. No glue, no marks, comes out when summer ends. Dropped the room 6 to 7 °C in 45 minutes. New post: https://blog.hofstede.it/a-monoblock-ac-is-only-as-good-as-its-window-seal/ #DIY #AirConditioning #Homelab #Germany #Heatwave

Hello, Welcome to my #introduction. I'm Iris. I'm a self taught developer who started programming through Roblox scripts years ago. I never really planned to become a developer. Most of the things I've learned came from wanting to solve a problem for myself, learning whatever was necessary, then moving on to the next thing. Over the years that somehow led me through Lua, PHP, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Go, and eventually #RustLang, which is what I spend most of my time with these days. I also run a small #Homelab on old hardware, self host a few services (this instance too, is self host), read far (probably) too many #LightNovels, and recently started learning #3DModeling. I'm not a particularly social person, so I'm honestly not sure how many people will ever read this. Maybe nobody. Most of my friends aren't very technical and probably don't even know what the #Fediverse is. Still, I thought it would be nice to have a place to share what I'm working on, my thoughts on things I find interesting, and anything else that happens to be on my mind. Nice to meet you all. --- A preview of my first 3D project rendered in Blender. I made it while following a course, so it's not very original, but I'm happy with how it turned out.

You know. I think one of the dis-satisfying things about homelabbing as hobby… you don't really "see what you did at the end of the day". Sure, you can point at your browser/network visualization/dashboard whatever. But a carpenter can say, "look, I built this shelf during the weekend", which is a physical item they can put in their living room and look at it every day. *frustrated cheetah noises* #homelab #selfhosting

Fiddling with distrobuilder to build a custom alpine linux LXC image for use in Proxmox so I can more easily start using stuff, currently installing an Mosquitto server for use with homeassitant because I want to get rid of the HA-built-in MQTT server because I want to use a second instance with a newer HA version, and zigbee2mqtt can only connect to one server and.... ... ... *gasps* Now I'm afraid I lost stack of my brain-stack-trace. Anyway. How's your afternoon been? #selfhosting #homelab #homeassistant

Achievement unlocked: SSO for the hypervisor! 🎉

My Proxmox VE is now officially using Keycloak OIDC for authentication, and the setup is fantastic:

  • Centralized Users: Managed alongside my other apps (Keycloak using my LDAP as the backend).

  • Hardware MFA: Locked down with a FIDO2 stick from @nitrokey@social.nitrokey.com

  • Unified Control: Centralized policies, logging, and RBAC across the board.

Another great improvement for my HomeLab/SelfHosting setup.

It's once again time for a new #introduction Hi! I'm Crabbypup, or just 'crabby', though only in name. I'm in Kitchener-Waterloo, and I'm a linux-flavoured computer toucher. I share stuff about the region, Open source software in general and #linux in specific. I like to tinker in my #homelab, where I run #proxmox, #ceph, and a bunch of other #selfhosted services including #homeassistant. I'm a rather inconsistent poster, and a prolific booster, but I'm glad to be here.

I just got a mail from #storj where they announced that they will raise prices. The worst thing about this is their new minimum monthly price of $50 compared to the $5 before. This makes it pretty much useless as an offsite backup for me. They say the global supply shortages forced them. Now I have to migrate all my backups to a new service. For now it looks like that will be iDrive e2. #sysadmin #homelab #backup
