Tonight's fun was trying to speed up #perplexica on a local homelab install with ollama, I run it on a mac mini m4, 16gb so am limited in models I can use, however 3 minutes to tell me how to make a pizza across multiple models seemed slow.. It was, same question, same #ollama, same models on #AnythingLLM 15 seconds.. I have ended up keeping the #searxng install which was quick and works well. Tomorrow I want to work out more about anything llm and RAG and the any cli that it has, as if I can do what I need to using that, I might move over from warp.dev to tabby with any cli.. Lets see.. Also seems like #lens has added more agentic on its #kubernetes app, interested to see what that might do Also might move from #docker to #podman and spin up a local 3 node k8s cluster on the laptop too. That would be good to test my latest vibe app out Love a weekend... #daveknowstech #selfhosted #homelab

Feed: All Latest | Dangerous New Linux Exploit Gives Attackers Root Access to Countless Computers by Dan Goodin, Ars Technica AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. A newly disclosed Linux kernel vulnerability, dubbed CopyFail (CVE‑2026‑31431), enables a local privilege‑escalation that lets an unprivileged attacker obtain root on virtually any Linux distribution with a single, unmodified script. Released by security firm Theori after a brief private disclosure, the flaw resides in the kernel’s crypto API where an AEAD template copy operation overwrites adjacent memory, allowing the attacker to elevate privileges, break out of containers, compromise multi‑tenant systems, and hijack CI/CD pipelines. Although patches were quickly issued for several kernel versions (7.0, 6.19.12, 6.18.12, 6.12.85, 6.6.137, 6.1.170, 5.15.204, and 5.10.254), many distributions had not yet applied them, leaving countless desktops, servers, and cloud environments exposed. Experts warn that the exploit’s reliability surpasses earlier high‑profile kernel bugs like Dirty Pipe and Dirty Cow, and they urge all Linux users to verify that their systems incorporate the relevant fixes or follow vendor mitigation guidance. Three of my mini-PC power supplies have died over the last 2–3 months. That’s half my #K8S cluster unavailable right now. 😓 All three nodes are old Optiplex 3010s, and their #QuickSync support isn’t great anyway. Right now #Plex / #Jellyfin is pinned to a single node with the “newest” CPU for transcoding. Debating whether to replace the PSUs or just upgrade the dead nodes to newer mini-PCs. #homelab #kubernetes #k8s

Do you use #kubernetes and #ohmybash ? A new plugin kube-ps1 needs testers to be approved #kubectl #bash #k8s https://github.com/ohmybash/oh-my-bash/issues/719#issuecomment-3938582360 Please, test it!

Ohhoh.
