Three easy steps to get #radio stations with EPG into #jellyfin:

Find your stations stream url and convert it into a valid M3U with #EXTINF:0
Put that file somewhere locally and configure a new tuner device of type M3U
For EPG just find a onlinesource, convert the data into valid XMLTV and refresh it continously. You can now add the url als TV Guide Provider and match the channels because of different namings.

That’s it. Totally easy. 😅

#Jellyfin cruft-clearance update: I found space to backup "short films" ~70 GB to then test, and doing Dashboard / Libraries / Libraries and on the Hamburger on Short Film clicking Remove did NOT delete any content! 🥳 Testing again, after backing up Television, which is an order of magnitude larger and full of bad or ambiguous filenames, but still backupable … given time. I clearly will have metadata to fix for a while. The program I wrote for Cage's mesostics, seeking previously unused syllables from biblical names when Hebrew rules are different and OCCASSIONALLY, less and less, requiring human assistance, was also numbingly tedious. John called it, "knitting with my computer" 😊

Found a non-functional github project that was last updated 2 years ago which changes your mastodon profile depending on what your listenbrainz "Currently listening" is outputting...I fixed it up after some trial and error to work in a docker container with refresh. Its been adding my listenbrainz currently listening, which is scrobbled from my local plex/jellyfin music libraries. Pretty cool! Feels very myspace lol Might put this out in the next week so others can use it. It's very lightweight at around 20-30mb memory. Seems no way around this #JellyFin block: I'd had "Doctor Who" as a folder, but it confused the classic series with the modern series, so the episode descriptions and images were junk. So I created two distinct folders, each tagged by the imdbid, but try as I might, even renaming the category (which cautions that it replaces all metadata) or setting a different folder, anything Doctor Who is completely ignored. I tried the trick of clearing the metadata for the series, but no, if that works at all, I must individually clear the metadata for all 56 episodes! How can there be no solution for this? Must I completely re-install?

@dinozombie@metalhead.club Was this after v10.11.11 upgrade. I have some wanky stuff going on since the release of v10.11*. It started marking random episodes way into series as watched and getting my watch status and next up messed up. #Jellyfin v10.11.* has been a royal nightmare for me from the get go. I reverted back. I only updated to v10.11.10 after the security fix wasn't backported to the previous version after it messed up everything and was slow to load, even with all the so-called fixes. I never updated to v10.11.11 I'm still at v10.11.10. I am still unhappy with performance and had to create three fresh installs. One with my favorite libraries, one with all TV and one with just Movies. Playlists and Collection disabled on all due to crippling load times. @jellyfin@mastodon.online

my @jellyfin@mastodon.online instance has been fucked beyond repair for weeks now and I've run out of ideas. I've scanned my media folders, rescanned, replaced metadata, rescanned again, updated versions (running 10.11.11), uninstalled jellyfin from the server, wiped cache and config files, reinstalled, checked disk health (drives are good), and still no dice. Jellyfin only finds like half of the things in there. And not always the same things, so I'm pretty sure it's not file naming it's getting tripped up on. Any ideas, suggestions or #Jellyfin alternatives appreciated. #techsupport #selfhost

We got through Play review again 🎉. The 5fth beta of @jellyfin@mastodon.online for #android is now live for all beta testers. I've already submitted the 6th beta, which hopefully will be approved more quickly. Unless any major issues get reported I'm hopeful to release the app either this or next week. Not sure why, but with the LAN I've needed to whitelist all hosts using #Jellyfin clients, otherwise their IP gets blocked by Fail2Ban after about an hour of watching. I fear this would happen to remote viewers too, but not sure I've ever watched more than an hour remotely. No idea if any other remote client services do the same, I've not let them run more than a few minutes. Is this perhaps a #debian #ufw #Fail2Ban setting I should know about?

Two weeks of retrying #jellyfin metadata refresh options or the db-fix did not work, I'm still cut off from seeing anything 'similar' to the missing files. "Ultra Q {imdb-t…}" which remains offered evokes a 500 error and "Ultra Q [imdbid-tt…]" simply will not register regardless the refresh method, and even the metadata editor aborts when trying to delete a branch when a single file is missing 😔 So be aware: adding is a one-shot thing, no corrections, no re-do, no deletes, your first try is all you get. I still do not understand the business case for this strategy, or how no-edits could go unnoticed for so long only to be dismissed by the crew as 'fixed' because some audio version bug that was linked 'same as' was resolved. I think that db-fix page describes how to wipe EVERYTHING to start over. Jellyfin is great when it works, however be aware: not religiously following their precise filename format rules BEFORE you install may appear to work for many files, but is not advised and will bite you 😔

I was ill last week and discovered something uncomfortable: a huge Jellyfin library isn't entertainment, it's homework. Every time I opened it, it asked "what do you want?" and I just scrolled. So I built a TV station instead. ErsatzTV turns a media library into real linear channels with schedules and logos. It ships for Linux, Windows and macOS. My server runs FreeBSD. Turns out the entire porting effort was one conditional. The code asked "is this Linux?" when it meant "is VAAPI available?" VAAPI is userspace, FreeBSD has it, and .NET has had OSPlatform.FreeBSD for years. One || later: Intel hardware transcoding in a Bastille jail that can see exactly one GPU and one read-only dataset. I now have a sci-fi channel. I don't know what's on tonight. Another run in with cruft in #jellyfin and a strong recommendation to others to read their manual page on filenames very carefully, at least until this notion of uncaught exceptions on missing files is updated to be a mere shrug and flush of associated metadata,and a priority to fix. What happened was really stupid on my part: I noticed file shares often include an IMDB tag in the filename. I had THOUGHT I had seen {imdb-tt…} in the wild, but it had no effect (so I thought) so I hunted up the guide, and so I corrected them to be [imdbid-tt…] I can no longer watch those shows: Jellyfin offers the old {imdb-*} and will not register the 'new' [imdbid-*] files, even in the Folders view. For a wishlist, I'd hope some enterprising coder can roll a dcleanup script that recognizes a missing file and purges all references. Would be nice if it recognized a name-change-only case and ported the old metadata, but hey, as it is, the only method left is wipe clean rebuild from scratch, so anything at all is welcome.
