One city (Brisbane), two #OpenSource conferences:
- @pyconau@mastodon.pycon.org.au (August)
- @everythingopen@fosstodon.org (January)
But January is a long time away, and the weather is much nicer in August! So what are you waiting for? Get your #pyconau tickets today! https://2026.pycon.org.au/tickets/
2026 budget. Something I haven't seen discussed but which ought to be is the impact of trust minimum tax rules for non-DGR charities. People can and do use trusts so that they can give *more* to worthy causes, without the tax man taking a hefty cut first. So much for that 😞
Brisbane Functional Programming Group #BFPG May 12: Tim Lamberton will teach us about data type derivatives and zippers, and Carlo will introduce Datastar, his new #Haskell framework for interactive web apps. Be there or a be a lambda cube! https://luma.com/72tqx0nh
The hearing for my #FOI case against Services Australia to get the #myGov app source code has been listed for 2-4 September. There's also a hearing to decide the confideniality orders on May 29. Read the full update: https://openmygov.au/posts/2026-05-03-hearing-dates.html
I made an #FOI request to learn more about the #myGov Code Generator app retirement (roadmaps, tickets, etc). Services Australia neither confirms nor denies the existence of such documents, because if they did exist (they surely do), they would be exempt as release could prejudice my ART proceeding to get the source code.

This is a little bit 🌶️ . A possible interpretation is that they think the public knowing WHY they retired it could harm their case.
Still digesting it all. New FOI Act 1982 sections unlocked. I think I need some sort of Achievement system to track that 😂
I'll write more about it soon on https://openmygov.au/ . In the meantime, I'm still crowdfunding - every dollar helps in this battle for transparency and freedom. Link to campaign at aforementioned site.
