🚨 First the social media ban, now the UK government wants to restrict VPNs 🚨 VPNs are a vital cybersecurity tool for businesses, politicians, journalists and families to protect data and communications. Banning or requiring digital ID checks before buying VPNs would increase cybercrime risks and expose IP addresses to predators. https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/2217934/vpn-ban-table-july-labour #vpn #socialmediaban #ageverification #ukpolitics #cybersecurity #onlinesafety #ukpolitics #ukpol

#Utiq #DonneesPersonnelles #DataPrivacy #GDPR #Privacy #ViePrivee

@saltywizard@beige.party According to this page, I'm in another country, time-zone, and I use a different browser. @protonprivacy@mastodon.social runs my #VPN and @Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net is how I browse. Of course, YMMV.

A quick shoutout to Mullvad

My app suddenly said “your account expires in two days”. Weekend was around the corner and there is no way that I could receive one of their refill vouchers in time (I use this method for privacy). I reached out to them, asking them to add a few more days to my account so that all my devices don’t get deleted when my account expires. I also emphasized, that they can of course subtract that amount of days from my next refill. I sent them my account number, encrypted with PGP, and within 12 hours, they replied: I added three more days. It’s on the house. Have a good day! :) That was really nice of them. :)

It's ironic to see those same global elites who love partying with the likes of known & convicted child sex-trafficker Jeffrey #Epstein now urging worldwide restrictions on E2E / #VPN & promoting age, biometric, and identity verification online - all in the name of protecting children It’s also highly suspicious that so many of the world’s biggest countries are trying to implement this wider #internet control at the same time. Feels like a major push toward #authoritarianism to me. #Privacy

A #VPN doesn't make you anonymous. It moves your trust from your ISP to your VPN provider. That can be an upgrade. It can also be a sidegrade. How to tell the difference → https://twp.ai/9OUlig #VPN #Privacy #OpSec #InfoSec #CyberSecurity

@Arusekk@infosec.exchange I'll be able to go #IPv6 once it's mandatory. Sadly it ain't but in fact many applications mandate #IPv4 to this day…I unsarcastically want #IPv8 (minus the obvious bullshit!) The only reason IPv6 traffic is increasing is propably becaise #MNO|s and #MVNOs still do #CGNAT on #RFC1918 address spaces, thus bricking #VPN|s. This was literally the reason I had to setup #DualStack at some company!

Firefox is adding a free, built-in browser VPN (starting in version 149) for users in the US, UK, France, and Germany, with 50GB of monthly data. It only protects traffic inside Firefox—not other apps so it’s useful for casual privacy but not a full system-wide VPN replacement.

  1. Firefox is adding a free, built-in VPN to the browser starting with version 149, initially for users in the US, UK, France, and Germany, with over 50GB of data per month.

  2. This VPN works only inside Firefox, protecting just browser traffic not other apps, other browsers, or system-wide network activity so it’s not a full replacement for a stand-alone VPN.

  3. Free VPNs can be risky, but Mozilla says its service follows its privacy and data principles; its VPN tech has been independently audited and uses the secure WireGuard protocol.

  4. Experts warn the limited scope might give non-technical users a false sense of full protection, even though it only covers web browsing in Firefox.

  5. Security expert Jacob Kalvo says it’s good for casual use and the 50GB limit is generous, but he doesn’t recommend it for sensitive data, competitive intelligence, or large-scale operations.

@certified_expert@lemmy.world I don't trust my ISP or the government above it. I think everyone here today doesn't trust their ISP and government. Use a #VPN or #TOR,Your ISP will only know the destination point, all traffic will be encrypted through a #tunnel You said you installed a router. How did you configure the modem? In Full Bridge? Also start changing your #DNS, don't use your ISP's default ones
