The Arkansas-based data broker Acxiom claims it has data on billions of people around the world, including where they live and how they might spend their money. It says it can even deduce their political leanings, weight, and interest in medical procedures. But what exactly does the company know? For Tracey Reed, a nonprofit worker in Oregon, it knew enough to compile a 58-page dossier charting the purported history of her income, employment, and education, not to mention her spending, including everything from her online shopping to charitable giving. Although much of the information was incorrect, she said, the company attempted to log where she lived, complete with latitude and longitude coordinates. And it listed dozens of companies to which it had sold data or inferences about her. “I think it’s pretty gross that people are treated like sources of wealth to be mined,” she said. “And that’s what these data profiles are, like, ‘Here’s a guide for how to squeeze this person and get money out of them.’” This should be in every state, not just California. It wouldn't be hard to regulate the data broker industry....that's if congress cared about citizen privacy rights. It makes me wonder how hard it would be to enact a regulatory enforcement agency in Oregon like CalPrivacy. https://themarkup.org/privacy/2026/09/16/whos-buying-your-personal-data-disney-gm-your-insurer-and-bank-heres-what-they-get #privacy #california #oregon #pdx

Who’s buying your personal data: Disney, GM, your insurer and bank. Here’s what they get – The Markup

Consumers asked a major data broker for their files. What they got back shows interest in how fat they are, how much they drink, and how likely they are to get a mammogram, among many other characteristics.

The articles on how over 90% of enterprise doesn't reach their return-on-investment goals with new AI models because their devs have to fix bugs and loops causing more token spend due to those developers "not constructing the correct prompts" is hilarious. Full on blame shift away from the AI providers and the underlying point. "Its a skill issue"..."Its a tooling issue"... While there can be issues with training when it comes to this... It has nothing to do with the new models using more internal reasoning tokens and increasing extended loops when it comes to unknown edge cases? There's a bottleneck and these enterprises, which already haven't proven ROI from AI models, aren't using new models due to these vast valleys in token overuse. If anything they're focusing on using free and open source models for a large majority of the work with cascading logic to bypass token spend. Which doesn't look good for further investment into new models if the majority of enterprise tasks simply do not require super compute models...and future valuations for these models therefor hits a financial wall. Compound that with the circular nature of keeping these AI companies afloat....yeah.... The more I research, the more I go...."wtf is happening here".... @mttaggart@infosec.exchange #ai #noai #tech #openai #anthropic #xai

@malwaretech@infosec.exchange God this is refreshing. This had me going "Right?!" the whole time lol. Completely agree. Everything they do is incredibly and blatantly sus. They know most people don't understand network infrastructure at all. I'm also far more worried about the toll ai psychosis has or an ai caused stock market crash causing world hunger. I personally know several people that already have a codependent relationship with their ai "therapist."

I've never gotten into this guy's content but I do love seeing the discussion of nepo baby musicians (often self proclaimed "musicians" with autotune) magically hitting top 100 charts. It's increasingly the case that you have to come from a wealthy family to make it in the music industry. I'd say it seems like over half of music festival performers are nepo babies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h52O0JiWEfc #music

If it happened, it would be fucking CFAA felony. And there's no way to know if it's totally cleaned up on HF's side, *that's not how compromises of infrastructure work*

RE: https://mastodon.social/@mercies/116999039542189806 The question I have is: What’s the final straw for people/businesses/orgs using meta platforms still? Businesses across the board still rely on it for reach, or at least instagram in particular, and I still imagine they’ll cling onto it despite the dwindling numbers and lack of defined alternatives. WhatsApp also still dominates for messaging in many countries. #meta #newsmax #propoganda #socialmedia #fascism #uspol

If anyone wants an no frills way to redirect instagram to imginn (privacy alt anonymous instagram viewer) Save this as the url of a new bookmark (bookmarklet): javascript:(function(){var%20url=window.location.href;if(url.indexOf('instagram.com')!==-1){var%20newUrl=url.replace('instagram.com','imginn.com');newUrl=newUrl.replace(/[?&]hl=[^&]+/g,'');newUrl=newUrl.replace(/\?&/,'?').replace(/\?$/,'');window.location.href=newUrl;}})(); Whenever you land on an instagram page just select this new bookmark(let) and it will redirect you. If anyone wants an no frills way to redirect instagram to imginn (privacy alternative anonymous instagram viewer), this is much easier than setting up reverse proxies and in browser redirects, especially if you keep your bookmarks synced.

Save this code as the url of a new bookmark (bookmarklet) and name it something like "Insta Redirect":

javascript:(function(){var%20url=window.location.href;if(url.indexOf('instagram.com')!==-1){var%20newUrl=url.replace('instagram.com','imginn.com');newUrl=newUrl.replace(/[?&]hl=[^&]+/g,'');newUrl=newUrl.replace(/\?&/,'?').replace(/\?$/,'');window.location.href=newUrl;}})();

Whenever you land on an instagram page just select this new bookmark(let) and it will redirect you. So now you can view that restaurants menu without being asked to make an account -- until all these businesses get off Meta apps. -_-

Additionally, here's one for x/twitter links to redirect to xcancel.com (x/twitter privacy alternative):

javascript:(function(){ const url = window.location.href; const newUrl = url.replace(/(x\.com|twitter\.com)/, "xcancel.com"); window.location.href = newUrl; })();

Read more about bookmarklets here:

RE: https://bitflipp.social/@brett/117004483200734139 And twitter/x for that matter. Unfortunately, engagement and the network effect is the master and the provider for many. Even if it is mostly bots and dead internet theory at this point. How many journalists/tech workers/figureheads/creators/etc have started mastodon & bluesky accounts to leave them collecting dust. Many come back to try it again and then log off again shortly after. There really isn't a high level of engagement on mastodon unfortunately. #mastodon #bluesky
