I've been trying to diagnose intermittent dropped packets, high latency, and WAN disconnects on a DSL connection at a remote site for months. The ISP has had many techs come out and try to fix it on their end. Today I ran some tests with disabling different equipment at the site to try and narrow down if something is inducing these issues upstream of the router. It seems like perhaps the #proxmox server or VMs or LXCs, the KVM dongle for remote access, the TrippLite PDU, or the five port switch all of that is plugged into might be to blame. However, this has been an intermittent problem so I'm not entirely convinced that I've isolated the problem. It could just be that when I was testing it was acting up in a specific way. I'm not physically at the site and my local support can't physically get to where the switch is (on top of a high cabinet) so I can't easily disconnect individual devices and the switch, while it has a management interface, is not the easiest to figure out what is plugged into what port. I think what I can do is move Pulse and Uptime Kuma LXCs to operate locally at the site rather than remotely. That'll take off some network traffic (the site is bridged to another site). I could also upgrade the switches at the site with something more user friendly. This is the site where I've blown up a half dozen switches and never could really figure out why until I kicked most things off the wired network and onto Wi-Fi. It could have been a ground loop between different buildings, a faulty device somewhere, or a bad cable. But also I don't want to throw parts at something that might not need parts. I've done packet inspection and nothing looks amiss. Nothing is trying to talk to the Internet in a weird way. No security issues that I've seen. Nothing rogue on the network. I'm not really sure what to do at this point. This is so perplexing. #networkAdmin

#HomeLab help! I have #Proxmox VE and used a helper to make a Docker VM. Now I want to give that VM a fixed IP and I see that the way to do this is to log into the VM and set the fixed IP for the OS in the VM, but... The VM is running Debian 13 Trixie, which I believe uses #Netplan. So I modify the config, and do 'netplan try', and it reports that it can't allocate the IP which I think is because it's a VM. So I don't accept the new config. I tried some unused IPs. Any thoughts on this?

Anoxinon e.V. #Anoxinon #Mastodon #RAID #Restore #Backup #Proxmox #ProxmoxBackupServer #PBS #Borg #BorgMatic #PostGres #Datenbank #DB #Fediverse

ZOMGWTFBBQ. #Windows11 on #Proxmox. Install started well over an hour ago now. I drove up to East Toledo, walked the dog, came back, and it is _still_ only at 80%. All so I can run MCEdit and try to save an old #Minecraft world.

Hello Fedi! My employer went through my #PostCovid time with me. Now that I'm back to work full time, they suddenly decided to let me go. 🤷‍♀️ I'm a #pentester with 5 years of experience in the field, before that 3 years of software dev in the #infosec field as well. Got a Bsc. in Computer Sience with emphasis on infosec and networke systems. In my #homelab I'm selfhosting on #proxmox and #k8s. I've been daily driving #linux for the past 20 years, first #gentoo, then #fedora. I'm pretty good with it, but no certs. I'm looking to continue in #offensivesecurity, but would be happy to pivot into infra/network or any other adventure given it's interessting or a good cause. Happy to invest in my skillset. Hybrid in north-eastern #Switzerland fully remote anywhere else. #getfedihired #fedihired

Replying to @AlienJay@burningboard.net

ANSWERED! See thread replies. I’m thinking about turning my #VPS in a #Proxmox node and adding it to my #homelab cluster. All other nodes are at my home. They will communicate through #WireGaurd. How bad is this idea? Anyone tried this? #vps #proxmox #homelab #wiregaurd #askfedi #selfhosted #selfhost #selfhosting #proxmoxve #proxmoxcluster

Linux microblog update: ProxMox (or maybe my network hardware) does not like when I swap harddrives onto different motherboards (and therefore different ethernet cards with new MAC addresses.) I do this anyway because used old Dell Optiplexes tend to be... used...and old, and it can be a bit...dynamic...adding additonal storage to them. Luckily reinstalling a ProxMox node from my USB key is quick, and now the node thinks it was born with this motherboard and ethernet card. #linux #microblog #proxmox #dell #optiplex #reduce #reuse #recycle

@BoxyBSD@mastodon.bsd.cafe Returns to #FreeBSD: Migrating from #Proxmox to #Sylve (#bhyve) Some journeys don't end where you expect them to. Sometimes they bring you right back to where everything began, only with a lot more experience and a much better ecosystem waiting for you. That's exactly what is happening with BoxyBSD! In my (longer) blog post I cover my circuit, where I moved from bhyve to Proxmox, developed many tools for Proxmox and now moved back to FreeBSD with bhyve and Sylve. More details in my blog post: https://gyptazy.com/blog/boxybsd-moving-from-proxmox-to-bhyve-with-sylve/ #RUNBSD #bsd #freebsd #boxybsd #openbsd #netbsd #sylve #bhyve #opensource #vps #vpshosting #opensource #community #bsdcafe #boxybsd

Most nodes at @BoxyBSD@mastodon.bsd.cafe are now operated by #bhyve on #FreeBSD via #Sylve again! Thanks to @hayzam@mastodon.bsd.cafe for his incredible work by crafting #Sylve! As it’s not that easy to drain nodes to be reinstalled with FreeBSD, there’re still nodes serving VPS instances via #Proxmox / #KVM. #RUNBSD #VPS #freevps #opensource #community

Dennis - DeKayy @DeKayy@defcon.social · Jul 06, 2026
Boosted by Welcoming committee @welcome@friends.deko.cloud
Hello again, Fediverse, time for my #introduction First off, this account exists mainly to hopefully get #fedihired hopefully so set expectations accordingly. Boosts are appreciated. With that out of the way, I am Dennis also known as DeKayy. I am an OSS enthusiast currently living in the area around #Frankfurt , being fluent in both English and German. Outside of technology, my passions lie with equality, equity, independence, generally making the world a better and more fair place. A homelab and ever increasingly independent tech-stack is also what I call my own. On the career side, I have been a System and Network-Administrator for nearly 4½ years and counting. And as mentioned, currently on the lookout for new opportunities, preferable completely remote. I manage around 20 #Proxmox nodes professionally and 3 in my personal deployments, the amount of #Debian VM's and containers (including #Docker) sits somewhere in the hundreds. With #Ansible slowly getting established in every nook and cranny to help with the whole process. Monitoring is done on both sides with #Zabbix and serving web-requests with either #Nginx and #Apache, though I prefer the former. I use Let's Encrypt and Cloudflare quite a lot, also having built a certificate distribution framework to deploy those internally behind metaphorical split-brain DNS lines. Windows Server and Puppet are also not unfamiliar to me, they are currently not frequent acquaintances. In the direction of #DevOps experience, I use Git daily, I either setup, helped with or run Jenkins buildsystems, Gitlab instances, Gitlab-runners and more. Development-wise I created applications, tools and helpers in C#, Java, Bash, Powershell, Lua and Python, in order of proficiency. I bring enough social skills, experience, passion and conviction to help build and run an entire independent tech stack if one wishes for it and brings enough patience, time and budget. What I am looking for is primarily a remote position, 60% work-from-home is my minimum. This introduction post is getting kinda long so I will leave it here for now, reach out if you are interested. Later, DeKayy #sysadmin #fedihire #fedihire_de #fedihire_eu

so i tried to make a nested proxmox vgpu thingy. but it doesnt work cause when i enabled viommu on the vm the nvidia driver fails(RmInitAdapter failed) but when i disable viommu mdev doesnt work cause it needs /sys/kernel/iommu_groups/ which only exsists with iommu. i fucking hate this bullshit. #proxmox #vgpu #viommu #iommu #gpu #nvidia #server #homelab #selfhosting #vm #qemu #pciepassthrough #mdev
