🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🚲 #Edinburgh #Waverley #railway station has renewed its partnership with The Bike Station to pass on unclaimed #bicycles for refurbishment and reuse. Each year, dozens of bikes are left at the station. Over the past two years, more than 60 have been abandoned after attempts to reunite them with owners. Bikes are stored in cycle racks for up to two weeks, then moved to secure storage for six months before being released if unclaimed. On 22 April, around 30 bicycles were collected and taken to Polmont Prison for cleaning and servicing as part of the refurbishment process. The Bike Station refurbishes and resells bikes at affordable prices, reinvesting income into #cycling access projects, maintenance training and schemes such as Kids Bike Life. 🚉🚧 Berrylands station in south-west #London will close from 11 May to end September for a £6m upgrade by Network Rail and South Western #Railway. During closure, SWR services will not stop and both platforms will be rebuilt, replacing timber sections with glass-reinforced plastic to extend lifespan. Works include upgraded lighting, CCTV, customer information screens and help points. A rail replacement bus service will run every 30 minutes between New Malden and Surbiton. Nearby roads and footpaths may face restrictions, parking suspensions and short-term closures. Preparatory works include vegetation clearance, utility diversions and ecological mitigation, followed by demolition, piling and modular installation. Again, reservations should be mandatory and more expensive in the quiet coach! Additionally, they should only be available to those who only buy a single ticket! I always pay 5.50 eur just to be disturbed by those who are too stingy to buy a reservation on time so they end up sitting where seats are available, in the quiet coach! #travel #railway #train

Union Pacific No.4014 "Big Boy," a 4-8-8-4 steam engine, rolling along the southern edge of the Black Rock playa in Nevada yesterday morning. I'm off to try and catch the 4014 crossing the Clio trestle tomorrow morning. There's a forecast for rain and the humidity will be high. It was a challenging day chasing the UP No.4014. It was very slow coming up the hill in the Feather River Canyon. By the time it got in the area where I was, it was late in the day and the light was fading fast. With the rain, and snow further up the hill, the 4014 was really blowing steam! The No. 4014 entering the Williams Loop, a rail spiral on the Union Pacific Railroad's Feather River Route. It was really chugging heading up the hill to the Sierra Valley & summit at Beckwourth Pass. I was standing on the upper part of the loop as the train crossed under me. Very impressive the steam / smoke / power of that engine under full load. One from Corfe last weekend that would qualify for StilleSonntag if it wasn't for the insistent kettle noise. One engine in steam, and the signal box was unmanned, so all working was from the Up platform, hence the wrong line working. Nice to see a preserved locomotive looking slightly scruffy. Rolling stock was immaculate. Taken on an actual camera and moving my photo workflow to Linux, so took 5x longer than usual! #railway #steamrailway #BulleidPacific #SpamCan

🚈🇮🇪 KeolisAmey has been awarded the next generation Luas Operations and Maintenance (O&M) contract, valued at €1.3bn, by #Transport Infrastructure #Ireland (TII) and the National Transport Authority (NTA). Starting 1 September 2026, the contract runs for seven years with an extension option. The contract includes a new timetable with extra services during peak times from 2027. Transdev will help transition to KeolisAmey, with most staff expected to transfer under transfer regulations. KeolisAmey operates similar services such as London’s Docklands Light #Railway and #Manchester #Metrolink. This contract supports the continued expansion of Dublin’s Luas network, including the planned extension to Finglas. 🚄⚽️ Stevenage FC and its Academy have formally adopted #Stevenage #railway station in partnership with Thameslink and Great Northern. A plaque was unveiled on platform 5 by MP Kevin Bonavia ahead of the Boro’s 2-1 win over Stockport on 28 February. Under-12s handed out artwork and safety posters they designed, and will help plant flowers in the club colours. Thameslink and Great Northern have supported the Academy for 12 years, providing free travel for players and collaborating on community campaigns. The initiative aims to deepen the club’s engagement with the local community, with a job swap seeing a young player record a station announcement while the rail company’s announcer attended the match, playfully adapting the “See It. Say It. South Western #Railway has welcomed back the Railway 200 exhibition train ‘Inspiration’ to its network, with recent visits to Kingston and Salisbury drawing around 3,000 visitors. The national Railway 200 programme, marking 200 years of Britain’s railways, began on 1 January 2025 and has featured more than 10,000 events. SWR has hosted 90 events across its region, attracting 9,478 visitors, supported by 282 volunteers who gave an estimated 3,602 hours. Highlights include murals at #London #Waterloo and other stations, anniversary plaques at locations across the network, and a reflective garden at Brookwood Cemetery in #Surrey, honouring railway colleagues.
