The GLA has disclosed which roles in the Mayor’s Office are classed as politically restricted under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989. These include advisers to the Mayor covering briefing, casework and political affairs, along with senior advisers responsible for communications, digital media and staffing. The list also includes Mayoral Heads overseeing areas such as news media, marketing, strategic communications, operations, policy, political affairs and digital services, as well as the Chief Digital Officer. Senior leadership roles including the Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, assistant chiefs of staff and several Deputy Mayors across portfolios such as housing, transport, business, culture, planning and environment are also designated as politically restricted. The GLA confirmed no postholders have been granted permission to undertake otherwise restricted political activities.
