Help me Hivemind I've been asked to come up with some bicycle themed snacks for an album release party Ideally appealing to people from mid teens to twenties who go to loud bands and enjoy a mosh pit. Not too time consuming or expensive please, I'm a poor and tired person. Vegan would be good (especially with the price of eggs and butter) Best I can come up with is round cookies with spokes, rim and hub piped on #BikeTooter #FoodGloriousFood

I've only been in Rimini a few hours but color me impressed with its bike infrastructure! I look forward to learning more at #Velocity2026 #Rimini about how local leaders came to embrace a robust transportation network for people outside of cars. What's that you say? Of course small flat seaside towns w narrow streets are naturally suited for bikes & scooters! But #velocitizens, how many tourist towns do you know that teem w cars? Clearly Rimini takes micromobility seriously! #bikeTooter

Relaxing train+bicycle trip to #Kolpa river in #Podzemelj, #Slovenia. The water has pleasant 23 degrees, and the atmosphere is very calm - the summer season has not really started yet! #BikeTooter #river

It's #WorldBicycleDay and a good time to mention this graph from Scientific American, first published in 1973, and updated 2025. A person on a bike is the world's most energy-efficient mode of transport, and it's not even close. Salmon use three times as many joules/g/km to get around, and then it's jet aircraft at 5x. #BikeTooter #Climate

One annoyance with my small #snac instance - or any small Fediverse island regardless of the software - is the missing visibility of the rest of the network. For followed hashtags, I am missing out on most posts as I am not federating with most instances. The usual solution is to use an ActivityPub relay. This, however, resulted in receiving looots of posts, hitting file size and inode limits on this small VM. Thus, I gave up this experiment a while ago. Now, I just stumbled about https://relay.fedi.buzz/ from @astro@c3d2.social, which allows to only follow certain hashtags, which is kinda exactly what I wanted ❤️ After following the Subscribing to Fediverse Relays section from snac(8), I came up with the following jq(1) command to subscribe each hashtag I am already following on my #snac instance. And yes, this would be way faster to do by hand for those six hashtags in total. $ # Create multiple snac follow commands for each hashtag the "xz" $ # user follows. The "data" directory is the $SNAC_BASEDIR. $ jq -j \ '.followed_hashtags.[] | "snac follow data relay https://relay.fedi.buzz/tag/",.[1:],"; "' \ < data/user/xz/user.json snac follow data relay https://relay.fedi.buzz/tag/openbsd snac follow data relay https://relay.fedi.buzz/tag/snac [ . . . ] If the generated commands are looking not suspicious enough, rerun the command within $() or execute the output manually. Finally, I am able to doomscroll #biketooter for weird and ridiculously expensive bikes from my instance; yay!

#audax RRtY 7 of a possible 12 (it's not over til it's over). Instead of trying to go somewhere specific and back yesterday I rode a meandering route that joins up some of the best (& quietist) bits of NW Norfolk. For such a small area the variation in the terrain is surprising. And obvs there's a mandatory trip to the seaside (which won't be quiet in another month or so!) Need to re enable my Warmshowers account as open for guests. Happy to act as a tour guide to any #BikeTooter types who want to camp in the garden.

Thinking about getting around without a car? More importantly, do you vote for people who fund transit & biking in cities? What our streets prioritize is up to us, not car lobbyists. According to AAA annual cost to own and maintain a car is $11,577 (calculated before fuel prices started to skyrocket). #bikeTooter #transit #urbanism

Hey Fedi Friends! There is this gap between the lowest silver part and the top of the grayish part that shouldn't be there. I can see bearing balls in the lower part, and the top part is a bit conical. How do I close this gap? I tried mild force: loosening everything and tightening the bolt on top to pull everything down resulted in a snapped bolt. Hammering the loosened stem downwards did nothing. #AskFedi #cycling #bike #BikeTooter #maintenance

Interesting, someone custom built this thing with a belt drive. (fixie... those are pretty much impossible for me to ride on the hills here, lol) Appears to not have brakes, either. #BikeTooter

@plactagonic@f.cz asks:

I just “sent order” for custom made full frame bag. *

Q7. Has anyone had any experience with custom made bike bags? Are they what you wanted or you would buy something off the shelf?

  • It is more a friend of a friend who does sawing for fun and reclames material from all over the place and it is first time she will do something like this.

@Amgine@mamot.fr asks about rolling resistance:

Q6.

  • Any lay-person resources to learn more?
  • Is larger diameter generally better?
  • Why is the standard #bicycle #wheel 700c / 26” ?
  • W/gyroscopic forces, the turning CoE moves forward of the wheel centre, even > r (e.g. the demise of delta motor trike.) Is this greater w/larger diameter?
  • Is this a factor in drive wheel vs steering wheel? I.e. if they must be different, which should be larger?
