Regulation of #ebikes is a #racism issue, a #classism issue, a #feminism issue, an #ageism issue, and an #ableism issue. Policing of all kinds, including motor vehicle operation, is always directed disproportionately at people of color, leading to higher rates of license revocation, suspension, citation of infractions and fines against people of color. Power assistance is not just extremely helpful for disabled people, elderly people, and women, in particular… #BikeTooter #FediBike

If you are unwilling to recognize the simple fact that women in our society are subject to vastly different standards of appearance and presentation than men, and that it is not socially acceptable for a women to appear disheveled in public, let alone upon arrival at work, then you are I are just never going to agree on the nature of reality, so if you want to argue this point with me, I will simply block you. #Ebikes allow people to get to work on hot days without arriving a sodden mess.

"The thing that makes a bike lane “equitable” is that most people can afford a bike even if they can’t afford a car... It turns out the transportation we needed was there all along, just waiting to get better... "E-bikes [are] cutting oil demand by a million barrels a day, probably more than EVs." https://billmckibben.substack.com/p/tour-de-planet #billmckibben #bikeTooter #ebikes #climateAction #energy #EV #oil

In the UK, privately owned e-scooters that are popular in cities around the world remain illegal to ride on public roads, while legal e-bikes must comply with regulations limiting motor assistance to 15.5 mph (25 km/h) and meet other technical requirements. 15?! Sheesh! My Aventon Aventure 2 will do 20 by throttle alone so it's illegal in the UK? :( Met police break their own record for seizing illegal e-bikes On my site: https://michaelharley.net/links/2026/07/26/met-police-break-their-own-record-for-seizing-illegal-e-bikes/ #eBikes

Ebikes are "becoming one of the biggest public safety challenges facing our community. Not because e-bikes are inherently dangerous. It’s because too many riders are treating them like toys instead of vehicles. Public safety officials are advising juvenile riders and their parents to get caught up on the rules of the road, and to follow them whether on two wheels or four…. We don’t need to become known as the community that wrote the toughest ordinances. We should become known as the communities that created the safest riders.” https://sanbenito.com/editorial-creating-a-culture-of-e-bike-safety/ #ebikes #eMotorcycles #TrafficSafety #SanBenitoCounty #Hollister #MontereyBayRegion

Mostly for my own reference so I can find it later: Anna and my eBikes both have Bosch PowerTube 500 batteries ("approximately 500 Wh," my maths say 481 based on stuff WHICH may not be complete/accurate). Official charge time 4.5 hours which seems about right, actual AC draw mid-battery at 180 watts which doesn't add up at all so presumably it's drawing less/charging more slowly at the low and high ends of battery capacity. Regardless this maths to a minimum of three and a practical high of five full charges off one of the base solar batteries, no auxiliaries necessary, and more assuming we don't drain bike power to zero which we never do. If we can do pure DC charging this would improve further. #BikeTooter #eBikes #solar #notes

Due to the popular confusion about #ebikes, West Midlands police seized and crushed this poor bloke's perfectly safe and legal @ternbicycles@toot.bike https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cyvl7ld06r8o

‘Taking the mickey’: Inner-city council tears up e-bike deal https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/taking-the-mickey-inner-city-council-tears-up-e-bike-deal-20260714-p60fbu.html The City of Yarra has ended its farcical, greenwashing, multimillion dollar, six-year, on-and-off "trial" with Lime e-bikes. Previously, there was a brief suspension of the contract due to Lime failing to pick-up their trash that had been dumped inconsiderately in bad locations by customers, and because Lime got caught saturating the city with more hire vehicles than the contract permitted. And, it's been suspected by some people that Lime had also been dumping e-bikes: trucking them into suburbs and treating public footpaths as their own depot. This final cancellation of the Lime contract means several inner city suburbs of Melbourne will finally be rid of the problem of shitty people with shitty cycling skills and shitty attitudes to safety, who were riding shitty rental e-bikes and scooters, and making shitty decisions about where to dump them. #Melbourne #Yarra #Lime #EBikes #Greenwashing

Very thoughtful of some zillionaire tech bros to provide these convenient self-installing relocatable sidewalk trash receptacles! All of a sudden they're everywhere and we are using them! The grateful people of Los Angeles thank and salute our benefactors! #LosAngeles #Litter #LimeScooters #EBikes #Sarcasm

I like this a lot! https://youtu.be/9NGa5mz5cp0?si=sbrtfnEkt7XZVZYX An ebike without a battery - but super-capacitors. Charges on easy flats and downhills, then will have enough to help you up the hills when you need it. It might still not be enough for say, Bristol or a town in the Alps, especially if you need to go uphill immediately from home - but for lots of cities this would get people over the humps of "I want to cycle but oh no but hills, but sweaty, but battery charging/exploding" woes. #eBikes #bikeTooter

#BikeNite A8 I've made a few crossings of the river near sunset this week, returning from #BikeSummerPDX group rides, and passed 600 miles on the #lectricOne, after about six months. I'm still not happy with their programming choices / inflexibility relative to the throttle and assist levels (🙄 "annoying if you ever pedal" ™️.) Still far less happy with #OregonDOT, owner of the ugly Marquam bridge (is falling down) and all of the worst #stroads in #Portland. #ODOTGTFOpdx #eBikes #BikeTooter

#BikeNite A5 my #eBikes / #cargoBikes are all quite different and 3 are "projects" in various states of motor/battery completion/capability. I lean toward the #umbrellaBike (yuba #superCargo) if it's wet/cold & transporting the sub-100lb child or wanting to keep cargo dry, the bakfiets format is also good for some load shapes, but underpowered front hub only as-is now. My xtracycle #edgeRunner has a bbs02 crank & good gear range, does steep climbs, wife's favorite date bike (8yo🪫needs upgrade…

Checked out an electric bicycle. Couldn't tell much difference. In fact, it seemed much worse, too heavy and handling badly. I was about 10 feet from the bike share station to return it when I noticed there was a power button I hadn't turned on. 🤷 #BikeTooter #Bicycling #Biking #Cycling ##PedalCycling #EBikes
