The Alberta oil & gas industry is full of scofflaws, it would seem, and they are being protected by the very government structures that are supposed to protect us from then. All of this is reason to end the #oil #addiction API gravity tells us how light or heavy the oil is. • US WTI: ~40° API — light, golden, and easier to refine • Iran Light: ~34° API • Russia Urals: ~31° API • Venezuela: ~8–12° API — extremely heavy, like tar Oil quality plays a major role in global energy economics and politics — not just the amount of oil a country has. The lighter the crude, the cheaper and easier to refine into gasoline and diesel. Heavier crude requires more refining. #energy #crude #pimpsofthepumps #fossilfools

Marketwatch this morning report that overnight's reversal - a stunning leap in oil prices followed by a dramatic drop to merely a significant rise in oil prices - was in fact triggered by reminders of strategic oil reserves held across the G7, which led immediately to talk of _releases_ of oil by those reserves, even though none have been announced. And that stemmed the panic. For context, check earlier in this thread, or for more context, here's a five-day chart. Actual price in oil hit just short of $120/barrel at $119.48 before people got some talking to. #economics #economy #oil #OilPrice

The rapidly climbing price of oil is likely to be highly disruptive to the global economy, as will the crisis in the supply of gas (especially in the UK when the energy market is priced on the basis of gas supply). One underlying Q. is: how many people in the Court of Tangerine Tyrant bought oil futures a month or so ago & are now sitting on massive gains. If so, this might shine a slightly different light on the US decision to attack Iran in consort with the Israelis? #Iran #oil #politics
