Besides being unfair, the new #tariffs are a strategic mistake: They will harm the #US #economy & the US partnership with #Brazil. Several US industrial sectors depend on Brazilian inputs. Brazilian exports to the #US have fallen to their lowest level since 1997. Comparing the first 6 months of 2025 & 2026, bilateral #trade with the US declined by 12.8%, while #Brazil’s trade with the #EU grew by 6.1% & its trade with #China increased by 15.9%.  In the medium term, these #tariffs will disrupt #SupplyChains that are currently deeply integrated, & Brazilian companies will replace their US suppliers with partners elsewhere. #geopolitics #Lula #law #sovereignty #economy #Trump

A year ago, I was taken aback by the publication, on a digital platform, of a letter from President Donald #Trump imposing a 50% #tariff on Brazilian goods.
