commodore 64 BASIC is an abomination, so many secret codes for doing things. for instance, it lacks a CLS command, and you must just know PRINT CHR$(147)... i want to find a popular platform for releasing BASIC code that is not the commodore 64 -- any suggestions? i was thinking the zx spectrum? something sinclair maybe? perhaps we are just stuck with the c64, though, its popularity is pretty overwhelming. #tinybasic #commodore64 #basic #retrocomputing

Discrete transistor computer dev log Right at the end of finishing all the gates for a D flip flop, I made an error, and in an attempt to fix it, I ended up lifting a track off the veroboard and ended up ruining the whole thing :( Having a think about what to do now. Perhaps making these little flip flop boards is going to be similar to real semiconductor fabbing -- I should expect some level of failure, and have 'inactive cores' on every board.

Not quite sure, but I think I have stumbled on perhaps the next phase of the people's permacomputer project. Consider: a modular discrete transistor computer system/platform. Diode transistor logic. This I am making out of 2N3904 bipolar junction transistors, and signal diodes. Not much is different about the computer compared to a modern one, other than it is made by hand out of discrete components, instead of being printed on a wafer. #Permacomputing #retrocomputing

Is there another CPU with something like the 6502's zero page RAM? On the 6502, the first page of RAM can be accessed much faster than the rest. You have the ability to make many many virtual registers in RAM at only the cost of a couple clock cycles.

constantly scratching my head about what to do about this tech collapse, sometimes. perhaps less is more, and, importantly, i shouldn't try and force technical solutions onto what are in essence social problems. but i do like a challenge. everything is expensive. the web has gone to shit. LLMs are a new kind of imperialism. do tildes? pubnixes? microcontroller computers? rent a storage unit and process ewaste? permacomputing. human scale computing. digital literacy. the solarpunk movement.

Trying as hard as I can to try and source hardware and software with a view to what is easily available in my region.

Too often these retrocomputing hobbies will depend on components only obtainable from the USA or parts of Europe.

I have been interacting with different types of Asian businesses for ordering things and getting supplies. I have learned a lot.
