@cR0w@infosec.exchange yes.https://doggo.mrkaran.dev/docs/ | https://github.com/mr-karan/doggo in particular, for me as a dyslexic person, it has colour output, json formatting, and will happily answer multiple questions at once (e.g. a + aaaa above, or multiple domain names as well). It even perversely has an optional web ui (why) https://doggo.mrkaran.dev/ e.g.: $ doggo a aaaa t.me @1.1.1.1 @4.2.2.2 @8.8.8.8 @74.82.42.42 says that 4.2.2.2 is still answering queries for t.me, but nobody else will.

Crisis #fediHelp I’m searching fruitlessly for a short comedy video from LionField who are a couple of Italians doing clips about #PastaCrimes. This specific one starts off with a woman taking minced beef and wrapping the pasta inside it and then drenching it in barbecue sauce. They react screaming in Italian and then play 3 grandmas appalled at it. Anybody got a link to this one? [EDIT] https://youtube.com/shorts/_w-cwXhm9TM

Once again, critical services used by the human #FreeBSD community are either down, or so degraded they are mostly unusable, by AI scrapers. We're not the only ones! Surely this sort of long-term deliberate *abuse* falls into DDoS attacks? e.g. under CFAA 18 USC 1030 viz https://iclg.com/practice-areas/cybersecurity-laws-and-regulations/usa and similar EU legislation?

#FreeBSD 15.1-RELEASE is out! https://www.freebsd.org/releases/15.1R/relnotes/ https://www.freebsd.org/releases/15.1R/announce/ There are too many people to thank individually here but big shout-outs go to: Colin Percival, Release Engineer Extraordinaire and Professional Cat Herder. You wrangle the zoo like you were born to it. The security team who rightly shoveled as many fixes from upstream projects and internal ones into this release so we don't have to patch it. Your efforts are substantial and gratefully appreciated. srcmgr team who diagnosed and whipped up a fix for some of the weirdest boot loader issues I've seen in a long time. ports team who had their bits in place for the release weeks ago, and we could use and test them all through the release cycle. The docs team who made the release notes better than ever before, updated the website, tweaked the links, and finagled the manpages. The handbook never looked so good! The clusteradm team who make pushing "the bits" out all over the world look like it was instant. To the hundreds of committers and contributors who put time, energy, and love into this release, as always. Sponsors from Fastly.com and Amazon.com who fund a lot of the speedy package updates and downloads we now enjoy, and the many sites around the world running donated hardware and network facilities, all over the globe. A special thanks to contributors @markmcb@mas.to and @thismarkp@mastodon.social who worked for many months on the website redesign. Everybody who worked on the announcement is riffing off your work. It was a long time fermenting from within the system, and I'm very grateful for your patience. And finally, to our RC testers who persevered through a longer-than-expected cycle, to give us another fine and well-polished release. We couldn't do this without you.

@MichalBryxi@mastodon.world we have a tri-lingual family here. I couldn't honestly tell you what language we spoke at the last meal, people switch between whatever makes more sense / have the right words for the discussion at hand.

@oxy@social.bsdlab.au the original Elixir book is good but a little out of date. Here's what I recommend to start off:

  • whiz through https://elixir.hexdocs.pm/introduction.html

  • use https://elixirschool.com/en as a 2nd reference

  • once you've done that, get Saša's excellent https://www.manning.com/books/elixir-in-action-third-edition and go through it

  • then https://pragprog.com/titles/d-akelixir/elixir-patterns/

  • after a few months, read through "Designing for Scalability with Erlang/OTP: Implement Robust, Fault-Tolerant Systems" & "The BEAM Book: Understanding the Erlang Runtime System", while these focus on Erlang, its the same runtime and all of the wisdom here applies.

join one of irc or discord and badger me & others with questions there. There's also slack but I'm not active there.

I'm always happy to help a fellow dev acquire another unnecessary hobby.

#Microsoft #Github what even does "security" mean to you anymore? Something like this https://www.theregister.com/security/2026/06/08/github-nukes-70-microsoft-repos-amid-suspected-worm-attack/5252169 should have a front page announcement and an SVP or C-level person giving clear, regular, and prompt updates. Instead, https://github.blog/security/ is devoid of any news and you've dropped the ball *again*. Maybe this is a trivial issue, and no client exposure, but this is not the first time you failed abysmally to do even the most cursory of public facing statements about security. Get your shit sorted.

I learned a few things about #Arista switches in the process.

  • there's a full linux OS underneath, you can run anything on it, including plain bash

  • the aboot loader also has bash

  • there are 2 versions of the aboot loader with different zip formats used for loading EOS

  • I couldn't upgrade the older boot loader to a newer one

  • but you can repackage the newer one in the older format yourself

Their API & config setup is a pleasure to use in comparison to the fs.com ones I've got locally. Much more accessible and comprehensive documentation.
